I feel helpless?

Postby Erosindra » 13 Nov 2013, 23:12

So I am new here, but not new to anal fissures. I have been having issues with them for quite a while, and just recently when I thought it was starting to get better, last night it re-tore. I had run out of fiber supplements, and not yet having my license, I haven't been able to get more. So I did get somewhat constipated. But now, I really have to go, and it's extremely painful and I don't know what to do. If I take Miralax now, will it work on the BM that's in there currently and make it easier to go? Or will waiting, even with the stool softener, just make it worse?

Thank you so much for any help and advice. Right now I just want to cry because this is so frustrating and painful.

Erosindra

So sorry to hear about your pain and your history with fissures. We all know how frustrating and stressful it is.

To answer your question, generally speaking you're better off having a BM when you have the urge. Miralax works differently in different people. Some people have the softening effect fairly quickly (overnight), even with stool that is already there, and others it can take days to see any effect at all. If you wait you run the risk of it being even harder as the stool dries out with more time in the colon and rectum. If you think the stool is hard, you can try holding a warm water enema (if you have a way to administer one). You can also try soaking in a hot bath both before and after your BM to help with the sphincter spasms.

Wishing you the best, and so hoping you find relief soon.

A mineral oil laxative might get to the stool that's already there.
Drink lots of water. Even if that doesn't help your current problem, it will help prevent future occurrences.
I second the idea of having a bath. A bath can even help you "go".
Best of luck, Erosindra. You'll get through this!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Oh Erosindra its ok to cry

You may feel like it but now that your here your far from helpless.
Of the many useful tips here I'll just add a couple more for you.

If you can, before your next hard bm try prelubing the
anal region with Vaseline or olive oil which will help it come out.
Also instead of straining and forcing the bm out try squeezing
your butt-cheeks together with one hand while leaning to the side
on the loo.

This will often squeeze off a part of the hard stuck bm getting the
rest of it moving.

Sounds like your diet may benefit from more soluble fiber than insoluble
which can make things bulkier and harder to come out. To give you
better ideal of which foods to choose you can go here...

Erosindra: I can't explain why, but I among others on the forum have found that ground flax seed makes stools slicker and pass that much easier. I use a tablespoon on my breakfast oatmeal or cereal every day.

We know crying! Felt like I was pooping broken brick shards when this first hit me. Thankfully that's in the past for me today.
