Risk of fissures causing bacterial infection

Postby Hip hip » 19 Oct 2023, 07:04

What is the likelihood of chronic anal fissures resulting in a bacterial infection?
Any tips on how to prevent a bacterial infection?
Reason I ask is so an informed decision can be made on getting treatment ahead of prosthetic joint (hip replacement) and the risk of a skin bacterial infection getting into bloodstream to infect the prosthetic hip.

Hi hip hip
I’m no doctor but I think this is highly unlikely… lots of us on here have lived with a fissure for ages with no infection problems. I would think fissure surgery followed by a hip replacement would be a nasty combination! Wishing you all the best

He said based on where my fissure is it's not going to heal on it's own or at least very unlikely. It's basically a small hole on the outside and it just can't close up.

What is your doctors plan for treatment? These things are very tricky to heal on their own I can testify to that!!

I have never heard a doctor say this. Is this a colorectal surgeon telling you this?
