Hi all,
I finally had LIS surgery on 20th January, after years of both acute and chronic fissures. At the time of surgery, I had a partially healed fissure and another open one. The surgeon was keen to try botox first but I was determined to try a permanent fix. The surgeon is a highly experienced colorectal surgeon so I felt I was in safe hands.
The LIS went well, and I'm beyond happy to report that bowel movements are now painless (except yesterday when I had a tummy upset which caused a lot of itching during and after). However, I'm still getting all sorts of intermittent sensations (zaps, stinging and itching) from the incision area and nearby. I'm pretty sure it's mainly surface stuff but I wanted to check in to see how common it is. I keep seeing reports of how people get back to normal after 2 weeks, and for me it's been just over 4.
When I walk, I often get stinging or itching on the skin around the anus, it feels like a mix of aggressive itching, stinging and sunburn. Some days it sets in quickly after leaving the house, other times I can manage about half an hour before it starts. Happily, it tends to wear off when I use a peri bottle with cold water and lie down.
Is this to be expected? I'm telling myself it's just healing skin around a surgical wound but after the nurse told me confidently that I'd be back cycling within a fortnight, it's hard not to worry. I've not got any signs of infection, and I gather if it was an infection I'd ruddy well know it!
Anyone else been in this position, and does it get better with time?
