New bod same sob!

Postby Guest » 18 Dec 2010, 11:43

Hi
Intro; Didn't even know this site existed else would have posted earlier. Am not too sure how much detail anybody wants but I expect most have 'seen it done it' so I'll go light on detail.
I suffered piles internal/external for about 5 years but got warned off any type of surgery so used creams/suppositories.....big mistake.
Then to cameras and banding, all okay no hassles.
First surgery to remove skin tags, during the healing process enter the first AF.
Then there followed a period of creams, rectogesic and anoheal, neither worked and the headaches were not cool.
Second surgery, bit of a scrape clean (to help the healing process) and botox. Note, people pay for botox.....why? Its not so great.
Anyhow on to the third surgery, advancement flap is the latest. Am in the post month recovery now but its not going great with bleeding/splits/stitches etc.
Has anybody got any tips on helping wounds down there heal?
ps. my diet is good, lots of veg & protein. BM is kept soft with lax of varying makes. Image

Keep the wound clean and dry, sitz bath to promote blood flow, vitamin c,zinc and protein will help the body recover faster.I just had butt surgery myself 7 weeks ago.Time is the only thing else that will help wounds heal....that and patience.

Thanks Jeff. I guess part of the frustration of this is not knowing. When it bleeds again etc is it ok or not. I am doing all of the above and having read more of the posts on here my 'situation' seems 'par for the course'.
I'm seeing my CRS on Tuesday so hopefully he will be able to have a rummage Image around and tell me its all normal. Fingers crossed!!

Hey split, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. You've been through a lot.
The scraping procedure was a fissurectomy, I assume?
Just curious: has LIS (lateral internal sphincterotomy) ever been discussed? I obviously don't know much about your situation and history outside of what's in your post. But just curious why the other procedures have been done rather than LIS, since a hypertonic spasming inner sphincter is what's thought to be responsible for most fissures.

Thanks NG. I'm not sure if that was the technical name but my CRS basically cleaned the fissure of all the dead/bad/scar tissue that had formed around it and had stopped any hope of it healing. Along with a customary botox jab for good measure. Is that a fissurectomy?
As for LIS, yes we discussed it but at the time I said no because I had heard about the possible consequences. If I had read about peoples stories here I may have opted for LIS first. Either way I didn't and my CRS was willing to 'skip' that stage and go straight for advancement flap. As for the cause it was probably the skin tag removal that started it off followed by a series of hard/big poops and a slow healing process for the skin tag.

Hey split,
that does sound like a fissurectomy. NG will probably know more than I but that's what they do. They shave down the edges of the scar tissure so that it can heal properly. Steve, another boardie had one with LIS.
My fissure was cauterized with LIS- which I believe serves the same purpose.

Split, yep that sounds like a fissurectomy. It's supposed to allow the fissure to heal more cleanly.
I don't know a thing about anal advancement flap surgery, so unfortunately I can't offer any input on your current situation (sorry). But I do hope you'll stick around and keep us updated on how things go. We've got a number of folks from the UK here and even those of us way around the world are pulling for you. You've been through a hell of a lot and are probably way more of an expert than most of us here after all that :)

Hi Dawn/NG
Thanks at least I can put a name to that particular event. Not sure i have reached expert level just yet, of course not that I even want to when I think about it (the study course to that level is a bit rough!!). Joking aside it seems not too many people on here have had a flap so if theres any questions or your headed towards it ask away.

Split, you're now officially the advancement flap expert around here! How are things going on the butt front (or is that back :))?

Yesterday was my CRS visit so after his 'inspection' I have been a bit sore. There is an area of skin that has healed not so well and is weeping and a little sore. The flap itself is holding well though and has 'filled' the gap nicely, so fingers crossed and continued TLBC (tender loving bum care!!). As for the wound where the flap is taken from that is still sore, the hundreds of stitches have pretty much dissolved but the holes left behind are prone to infection. Salty baths are the way ahead there. Otherwise things are much better so heres to hoping it stays that way.
