The hunt for the perfect stool? Please help!

Postby JHH » 11 Mar 2013, 04:14

OK, Im in trouble here, and could really use some help.
The case is, since I stopped smoking 13 years ago, my stools have nearly always been loose. Once in a while they would be formed, but mostly when that happened, they would start formed, and turn into loose. Like a plug, and then loose.
Since my AF, I have been trying to work on getting that perfect soft formed stoll, but I simply cant. Either its loose, or if I add fiber, I will have the plug.
I take Husk, and magnesium, and this seems to make my stool even looser, but it seems I can avoid the plug, that could retear. Not perfect, but what can I do?
Feel free to give me some advice :D

Mine was always real loose mate. I read as long as the BM doesn't mix with the water then you're fine... mine never did.

I get plug sometimes, then soft, but the first plug rips the Fissures back open again. Last few days have been better. On advice from my Dietician, I sprinkle Golden Linseeds on my porridge. Also take 2 Vit C vitamins and 1 magnesium, then stool softener at night. No Red meat, fish, chicken, veg, sweet potatoes, soup...
Getting the stools right is hard! You watch now, I have spoken too soon, will get plug tomorrow!
Do you have IBS JHH?

I seem to be on a roll avoiding the plug (fingers crossed). Its now been a week without :)
I dont think I have IBS. Just cronic loose stools. Well, and maybe sometimes a little more gas than normal. (but I think thats from artificial sweeteners)

Think you need to be careful with too much insoluble fibre. Brown bread, too much fruit, veg. Also peel all fruit and watch skins on peas, corn etc., this can cause more gas and make the stools irritated. My Dietician gave me a fact sheet on this. All sooo confusing with this Fibre! I think if I have too much, my poppies are even bigger and harder! Ouch. With IBs in the mix, I have no hope.....
I think as long as it isn't tearing when you go, it should be okay??

Sounds very confusing. According to crackin, as long as the stools aint loose enough to mix with water, Im OK. So, I will just see what happens...
BTW. How are you doing these days Rachael?

Yes, I think crackin is right. Just why don't the CRS give us any good advice?
I have good and bad days... Will have uncontrollable pain 24/7 then maybe a day or so where I am not so bad.
I go in 3 wks on Thursday for Botox.
I just hope and pray I can heal. I have a chronic AF and a newer acute one. This has affected me more than I could ever imagine!

Yes, its crazy how much a little fissure can affect someone :-(
Remind me, you are not on nitro, right? Then why not? Usually nitro is tried before botox as I understand it.

I used Nitro for 8 wks, now on Diltiazem. This seems to be helping a little.. Demanded it from the Doc, as the Nitro was irritating me. The Dilt isn't licensed here in the UK, so I had to twist the Doc's arm. I just feel like this will never end!
Where are you at?
