My three years of hell, and counting

Postby PainInTheBehind » 22 Feb 2016, 09:29

Hi ya'all. 34 year old male here. Father of a beautiful little girl and married to a very supportive lass. Gainfully employed. So I have everything I need in life EXCEPT for this gosh-darn illness that has plagued me for more than three years now.

It all started in December 2012 when I had an incredibly bad episode of constipation. I powered through, but a day later felt this weird tear down there and constant pain. At first I thought it would go away on its own, but even when it didn't being a typical male I avoided going to the doctor. When I finally when to the GP they misdiagnosed as hemerhoids and prescribed an ointment. It was finally in April that I went to a specialist, he immediately diagnosed as a fissure and also stated that the ointment I had been using had actually made things worse.

Since that time I've had several treatments including three botox and two spinchterotomies. The first two years I pushed through with my life, almost every day spent in extreme agony where simple walking was difficult. I finally took 5 months off work (perks of living in a Scandinavian country) after the last spinchterotomy in early 2015 - which did help but the fissure hasn't really gone away. I am back to being in pain now and dread waking up in the morning.

I could withstand the pain if I knew it wasn't going to get worse. However what kills me is the soiling of the underwear and the foul smell that has become a permanent feature of my groin area. I am a huge germophobe who always has had excellent personal hygiene, so this soiling and bad odor depress me no end. They are also huge downers when it comes to activities involving husband and wife.

I also love working out with weights, and have stopped the gym for three years. I resumed again but it is difficult to get moving with the constant tearing pain in the core of the body.

So to summarize - I hate my fissure :~!@: , and don't have a cure in sight :verysad: . I would at least like to resolve the smell issue, and will create a separate topic here to ask if anyone has had the same problem and have found a solution.

Love and hugs to all my fellow fissure-suffering brothers and sisters :hugs:

Hello there and my sympathies to you. Fissures are hideous things. I was just thinking how ridiculous it is that they can cure all sorts of things now but these little devils must have been around for thousands of years and it all still seems a bit hit and miss. I guess it's not a "sexy" enough subject for the researchers to want to work on!
Anyway I just wanted to offer you some virtual support and I hope that we all find some relief from these blighters some day soon.

Hi There. 43 yr. old father of a 2 1/2 year old boy and another boy due in a month. I've been dealing with mine for at least month and have finally started actively treating it in the last two weeks.

I really feel for you. It's super depressing and axiety inducing. It's life wrecker. I've though my self a manly man's man and avoided doctors as well. I'm right there with you. Hope you find comfort and healing.

Thank you guys for your support, it does mean a lot :) I hope you find full relief soon as well and can continue living life to the fullest.

Yeah brokenbottom (LOL apt name!), I've often thought the same thing regarding the hit and miss treatment on this condition. And it is such a pain in terms of not being able to tell people WHY exactly I am withdrawn, not as active socially and professionally.

Yes the social side (or rather anti-social side) of it is getting me down too, PainInTheBehind. I feel like I'm hiding from everyone at the moment because this has become such a huge part of my daily life and yet I don't feel comfortable talking to anyone about it. Thank goodness for this board! Knowing other people understand makes such a huge difference somehow. Hope things improve for you PITB!
