Return to FISTULA - Are you having surgery for a Fistula or already had it?
by PJ999 » 10 Aug 2016, 12:14
Hi all, I had a fistula surgery and it hasn't gone away, however, the fistula is very small and causes me no pain. So...
I'm thinking of dating again but before I start doing that I first like to know if fistulas can be contagious or not.
Anyone know?
I've searched high and low in Google but could find no clear answer on this.

I just called the desk of my doc and the secretary inquired for me and told me it's not contagious, and that someone else can't get it like that.
Just a bit of extra attention to hygiene is recommended.

That would be correct.
A fistula is not a disease or an infection. It's not something you can contract from someone else the same way you can't give someone else a cut you got on your hand.

It's not an infection? Are you sure? I mean what's the puss about then?

Poor choice of words. It's not an infection like a cold or the flu.
It is an infection as a result of something else down there but another person can't "catch" it from you.
