got a question about type of doctor

Postby Guest » 25 Mar 2008, 07:36

First, I wanted to thank you all for giving me advice about MOM on the other post. You'd think by now I'd realize that sometimes I need to do what I feel I need to do to feel better instead of what a doctor tells me a do when they don't know my body. Geesh!
Here's my question. When my former primary doctor said I had fissures, he said I'm sending you to a colo-rectal surgeon. But, I didn't realize until I looked her up recently on the net that under her name it says "General Surgery/Vascular Surgery". Is vascular something to do with the heart? Or am I getting it mixed up with something else? I looked for a colo-rectal surgeon in the area and couldn't find anyone.
I'm wondering if that's why she's pushing so much fiber because isn't alot of fiber suggested for heart patients?
I know she's had other patients with tears and fissures because she was telling me that one lady took 6 months to heal using the cream. She's very experienced as a surgeon from what I've read about her. From what I've read on the board, it's not the best thing to have a general surgeon, though. I don't really have any other choice right now, but I'll keep on looking in case I need to find a new doctor for another opinion in the future.

I think I would see a CRS. They are going to have seen many more cases than someone who does general surgery. And her specialty seems to be vascular (related to veins and circulation).

But if that is all you have then make the best of it but ask lots of questions. All CRS's push fiber because in general people do not get enough and that is an easy first step to helping to correct bowel habits. But as you see, it can't be applied to every situation.

I saw a new CRS on Thursday and he was so suprised that I eat 40 grams of fiber a day. He said I should come talk to his other patients and be a spokesperson for fiber but I said I wouldn't be a very good spokesperson as I eat a lot of fiber and still got hemorrhoids and a fissure!

I would definiely go to a CRS. You need a specialist. a general surgeon might have experience in the area. Mine did, but my current CRS is lightyears better. Also remember, not all CRS are equal. I had two previous ones that were not good and caused more harm than good.

I wnt to a general surgeon too, don't get me wrong he was great when he took my gall bladder out, but yah you need a specialist who deals with this AF all the time. Look inot it and ask alot of questions about their experience with AFs.
