Started Flax Seed today!

Postby Jen » 03 Apr 2008, 10:24

My mom, the health nut, has me convinced that flax seed with help with my fissure. I bought ground flax seed and mix 2 tablespoons with my yogert.
Anyone else have success with flax seed? I saw some old posts on the topic - I just wanted an update.

It kinda coats the poo and it does provide good fiber, but it really didn't do much for me.

Buttgirl - How much did you take a day? Did you use the pill or the actual flax seed?

I used the acutal seed. I poured boiling water over the seeds and drank it. It made this slimey stuff which seemed to stay around the seeds through the digestive tract. I took 1Tablespoon of this 3x a day.

I sprinkled loads of it onto my cereal, but didn't drink anything with it!! Beware, that HURTS! I got really bad stomach cramps from it. Now I take flaxseed oil, from the bottle, or in capsule form. Obviously everyones different so its not going to do that to everyone.

Hi Val,
Hope you are well .....
Quick question......Does flax seed add bulk to BM ?
Do you use a certain brand ?

Tabby,
Love the picture! Too funny! Flax seed is rich in fiber and Omega 3 fats. I assume it will add bulk.
My mom said the seeds give her gas, so the past 2 morning I have mixed 2 Tablespoons of ground flax with my yogert for breakfast. No gas so far, and no cramping.
This morning I had a pain free BM - it felt like I was a "normal" person. I don't know if it is the flax seed (which my mom swears by for her 15 year old fissure) or the nitro, but something is really working!
I don't use any certain brand - just the ground seed. It is less common to find ground seed than whole seed.
