Never been on a forum

Hi I'm a 32 year old female. I've had fissures on and off for 11 months and finally last Friday I went to surgery. Initially the CRS thought he was going to do an LIS, but decided it was not necessary and only did two fissurectomies. Today is my 8 PO day and have had no pain whatsoever. A soft BM with only the slightest twinge of pain was such a relief. The past week during BM I've either sweated like crazy or felt like crying. There is hope afterall. I'm just hoping that the fissures don't come back.

Kristin,
I hope that you continue to heal well. My 83 year old mother had a fissure removed over 40 years ago and was given no instructions for after care nor pain meds. They did things differently back then.

Image Welcome to the board! That is wonderful news and it sounds like your well on your way back to normalcy (whatever that is!!).
I too had to deal with a fissure for many months and eventually got my life back through surgery. I would like to ask...did your doctor(s) try any of the blood pressure creams like diltiazem of nefedipine before they decided on surgery? I also wonder why they chose fissurectomy over LIS. Was your surgery done in the US?
For me, recovery from surgery was very rough for the first few days but by the end of a week I was just very sore...is that your experience with the fissurectomy or are you completely pain free in such a short length of time?
I will be interested to hear how well you actually do recover from the fissurectomy over time, as most people here who opt for surgery get the LIS, and I believe LIS help prevent any future recurrence of AF becoming chronic. The LIS does take care of the tightness in the anal canal, which leaves the area more able to heal in the future.
If you have a chance to look around you will still find lots of information on diet and many other things that may help you prevent another round of AF. Our board is full of recovering "victims!"
