Botox not working!!!!

Postby Peachy724 » 01 Aug 2009, 12:37

It will have been three weeks this Wednesday since I got the Botox and I am in pretty much the same pain as before, it's also been 6 weeks since using the GTN ointment and diltiazem ointment, please tell me what you think the next step is because I can't take this anymore, I just can't!! Could the botox still work or have I given it ample time??

I am not surprised, I have had 3 shots of Botox and they did not heal me. After one year I had LIS.
My CRS said that Botox should work after 1 week...
I am sorry you still have problems...

I'm so sorry the botox isn't working for you. I had LIS last october. I was scared to death to have it too but things got so bad I really didn't think I had a choice. My CRS didn't offer botox because he said if the sphincter muscle is too tight even if you heal you have a better chance of retearing after the botox wears off. I also have some other problems in the general area but the LIS was successful. It healed the fissure in a few weeks. I have some old scar tissue there so I get some pain from time to time but not as bad as the fissure. I have to keep my bms soft and easy to move the rest of my life because of a mild stricture too. Don't be afraid of the surgery. If you have a good doctor he will tell you if you're a good candidate for it. I had mine done on a Friday and was able to go shopping and out to dinner the following week. It was uncomfortable for longer then they told me but everyone heals at their own pace and like I said it's not as bad as the fissure itself. Good luck and stay strong Suzy.

Even though botox has a pretty low rate of success in healing here, Jackie's lack of almost any relief is still surprising. Most people have reported that it started to kick in after 2-3 days.
Jackie, have you spent any time looking through the surgery threads? You should get some idea what LIS entails there.

Peachy
LIS is not a guarantee to be painfree, but I think that if you reseach here on the forum you will see that it works in most cases. This doesn't mean I would advice anyone to have LIS, it is a big thing to decide and only you knows what is best for you.
This is my LIS thread, you can read this and other LIS threads..

I had a fissure for over a year, and I was in horrible pain most days. My CRS wanted to try Botox for 3 -4 shots, but after the 3rd shot we (me and hubby) said that it was enough. It wrecked my life and I really didn't want to live with this pain anymore. I feared incontinence, etc., but it came to a point where I had no choice - I just couldn't stand the pain anymore. I had a 3x2 cm long fissure when it was on it's worst and by the time I had LIS I had 2, and the oldest one was deep, and the musclefibres where open/showed.
I am healing slowly, but I am healing and that is most important. I have not had good old fissure pain since LIS. It was bad after surgery, but not as bad as before LIS. And when I have ripped in the 5 months after LIS the pain has been a breeze compared to before LIS.

I agree with Suzy here, when you are too tight you are too tight...

I live in Scotland and can you tell me what exactly a CRS is, when I had the Botox I was sent up to hospital and admitted as an emergency by my GP so I only saw a surgeon once and now I have recieved an appointment with another surgeon ( I don't know if he is a specialist or not ) on the 15th September which is ages, should I go to my GP tomorrow and demand he sends me back up to the hospital, it seems surgery is my last option ?
Thanks again folks

A CRS is a surgeon/doctor/specialist in colon problems.
Only you can decide if surgery is right for you/how desperate you are. If you choose surgery you most likely have to wait, so maybe you should ask for LIS and then use the waiting time to decide?
How long have you had the fissure? You had some other problems as well?

Hi Corsi,
I've had the fissure I think for about 6 months but to be honest I can't recall being pain free from it so not sure and yes I suffer from anorexia which leads to alot of constipation :( I think the tramadol is constipating me too so I'm stopping that today, Gps are thick I think!
