Anal fissure long term complications warning

Postby Bolex » 22 Jun 2019, 02:10

Hi I'm a 37 year old male had a chronic anal fissure for four years with daily bleeding ,Recently finally got a Botox injections which has calmed my spasms significantly however a few months before having the Botox I would develop horrific symptoms including penile pain, perineum pain, unusual never sensations in genital urine urgency!and then I developed an iguinal hernia. My surgeon would just shrugged his shoulders so I paid to see an international co!orectal physio specialist who told me that I was suffering from a pelvic floor dysfunction with pudential neuralgia secondary to the anal fissure after years of straining! Also I had been cycling in last two years and sitting down a lot worsening the issue slowly .I begged my surgeon for years for help to no avail and my life has gone from being fit and healthy to once to not being able to do any physical exercise for fear of flaring up my pelvic and nervous symptoms. The pain from my hernia is also horrific and again has probably been caused by constant straining! Anal fissure sure are not natural and I believe mine was caused by pro longed use of cocodamol for a unrelated pain I had before the fissure began historically I had always eaten plenty of fibre.Had I not been taking the medication and or been sitting down a lot in my job I would not I am certain have torn causing the fissure.Had I known cycling would have slowly been adding to the strain on my nerves from daily painful bowel motions. again I would not have taken it up and I definitely would have insisted on a Botox within the first year of developing this . There have been times when I have seriously came close to just endeding this vicious cycle I can assure you which is not in my character.I have now begun a program of meditation and breathing exercises to attempt to relax my pelvic floor I have been told my recovery will be long it's early days and I have seen about a 20 percent recovery .I have gone the longest in four years with no bleeding!I will keep you updated .But please be aware of potential complications down the road I did not have a clue and only got help my seeing an international therapist who sees people all over the world.Colorectal surgeon's do not realise the long term consequences these fissures can have on surrounding anatomy thru straining including the pelvic floor and pudential nerves which control many sensations in this region.

Hi, sorry to hear about this. Like you say, the pelvic floor region is extremely sensitive, and fissures can have subsidiary effects that extend well beyond it. Please keep us updated on your progress with treatment.

Hi, sorry to hear about the other issues you are dealing with! As if fissure pain wasn't enough. I appreciate this post as I have tried to live with my fissure for a bit too long and am now ready for surgery. I hope it will also get me fixed 100% and avoid other complications that could arise from leaving it be. I totally understand the depression and anxiety that develops because of this issue. It is hard but I am also coping better with meditation, reading and writing. It helps. Keep up the good work! Sending all of the healing vibes in the world!
