Question on CRS

Postby FishBoi » 22 Jul 2011, 16:46

Has anyone here had LIS done by Dr. Eiman Firoozmand in west LA? I'm on the fence with LIS and I've been seeing him but he's a bit hard to read. Nice guy but very calm/cool. I already got a name of another CRS here in the Los Angeles area from another forum member and will check him out as well.
From reading various posts here, looks like the success of LIS has much to do with a good surgeon. I'm getting extremely paranoid and doing all I can to research on a good surgeon that has performed a lot of LIS for fissures. None of my family and friends have this issue that I can share info with and I'm so glad I found this forum.

Re: Question on CRS

Hey there,
I felt the same way before having my LIS. I researched as much as I could on my CRS and asked her a ton of questions before my procedure. My husband had a list and kept reading her off the questions. I remember her saying "LIS is nothing" and in my case she was pretty much right, Lol. If your surgeon is calm/cool about it , then he probably feels the same way.
Maybe you could make a list of questions with your concerns and ask before having the procedure. How many have they performed, success rate, infection, any incontinence (that should be NEVER), etc. My CRS was happy to answer even when I told my husband to stop asking all of mine in the middle of about 20.

Finding a Dr. is so difficult, isn't it? I found mine through a strange mix of happenstance. Our local city magazine does an article each year on the best doctors and I had just had my fissure return after nearly a month's absence while visiting my sister. She convinced me to not just go with the general surgeon my family Dr had recommended but to look for a specialist. I bought the magazine and they had 3 or 4 CRS guys in there. They were picked by other doctors supposedly of who they would go to. I don't know how much stock to put in that actually, but at the time I compared their list with those on my insurance list and then looked up those two on the internet. There are places like RateMD where people can review Drs. The one I picked had all 5 stars on two sites and good comments. That said, I would never vote this guy bedside manner of the year. I could never really read him even after seeing him over a period of about 6 months. He could be impatient about too many questions, didn't have a nurse to filter the simpler ones through and was a little short with me on the phone at one point. However, he was very calm and confident, particularly at the surgery and I had no complications and at this point am very pleased with my results. However, I have been hesitant to review him on the sites I mentioned because I had such mixed feelings about him on a personal, emotional level. Basically I would say that cool, calm, rather detached doesn't mean he isn't the best surgeon ever. And I agree completely with Dawn's questions to ask above! Mine said he had never had anyone have incontinence, his success rate was very high- he said people had only occasionally had infection after.
