Hi there, welcome!
You've done the right thing, going in for surgery - a fistula wont heal on its own, so you dont have much of a choice!
I've had two fistula surgeries - it isn't that bad!
Best of luck!

Hey Val, thanks for the kind words!!!!
I'm not too worried about the surgery itself, I'm much more concerned about lingering after effects, recovery time, etc.

Well, the first week isn't a picnic, but it isn't too awful - if you can cope with the pain of a fissure or fistula, then it will be a breeze!
You should recover quite quickly, but maybe wont recover fully for some time. Its been 3 months since my surgery and I still have problems - but you'll still be ok to get on with life - it just wont be perfect!

Having said that - you could be really lucky and recover really quickly - totally! Sorry, didn't mean to sound as if its always a really long road to recovery!!

Oh, you have my sympathies - that first week is horrible. But hang in there, it honestly will get better - this time next week all this will be a dim memory.
Stay on yop of the pain with whatever pain killers you need - but remember to compensate for that by taking extra stool softeners.
Soak in a bath a lot - that will help the pain too.
Mine developed an infection about 10 days after the op, and then now I'm sure I have another fistula!
