Does Dairy constipate ?

Postby Val76 » 19 Oct 2011, 09:01

Hello,
I read many times here that dairy does constipate ? I ate always a lot of yoghurts, Ice cream etc. as many people were telling me that it makes the stool soft and I read it also on the internet.
Now I am a little bit confused...

I find too much dairy upsets my stomach (but I do have IBS). The dietician I have been to see said that sometimes too much dairy can constipate you and that some people can only tolerate a small amount due to the high fat content. I still eat yoghurt every day and can have some milk but too much cheese and eggs has a negative effect. I think everyone is different :)

I asked this before and so I researched, there are mixed answers. Thud I think better don't drink too much, else either diarrhea or constipation. Cheese and eggs too, don't eat too much.

Yes dairy does constipate if you eat large amounts, I find cheese being the worst offender, I found this out a few months ago, milk also causes hard stools if you drink too much
