Help -- what should I adjust?

Postby flamingo » 01 Jan 2012, 21:31

Hello. So, I am taking Miralax and 2 citrucel at night. Things are now a bit too loose (sorry for the graphics, but I guess we are used to it!) Not sure which to reduce -- I am thinking of cutting the citrucel down to 1 or maybe trying to skip it altogether? Would appreciate any input. Thanks so much.

Hi Famingo, Everyone is different as our bodies work differently. How much Miralax are you using? The standard 17g dose?? If so, you may want to cut the citrucel to one and see how you do, if still to loose cut the other one. I love the Miralax and only take 17g at night. No other supplements, I don't need them, but I do eat a high fiber diet and tons of water.

I'm using Konsyl, which was recommended by one of my crs.
Just thought I'd mention it.

yes citrucel is a fiber bulking agent, Miralax is a stool softener, it works by absorbing water into the colon so it is very important to drink a lot of water. Just wondering about the Konsyl, how is that working for you Bugaboo? my crs recommended it too but those bulking agents always constipate me.

Sue - the Konsyl seems a little gentler than the Fiber One cereal - less bulk, I think.
Honestly, I'm still experimenting. I'm trying to find out what will keep my stools soft and small, but still regular. --- My husband and son are like a couple of nanny goats - they eat heavy meats, cheeses, breads, syrupy-slurpy foods - without so much as a problem. There's no way I can eat like that, ever again - and btw, I never really did eat heavy meats.
I think the Konsyl is okay - and it's supposed to be among the better of the fiber supplements. --- What I'd really like is a bowl of spaghetti tonight, with pasta sauce. Folks in H*'ll want ice water, too. lol

LOL I hear you. I did eat pasta though. Barrilla makes a high fiber pasta, not the brown whole wheat. It is yellow. My husband never even knew I switched until I told him!!! I am craving a nice steak, but being only 3 days post op think I will wait several more weeks!!! Tired of chicken, I think I am growing feathers...LOL. I have the Konsyl here, but think I will wait until I am healed from surgery to try it, don't want to get to bulked up.

Sue, how are you doing, post-op?
I've forgotten, but is there a place here where you've described your surgery? I've had a spike of pain again today, and I've just about had it.
I'm thinking of different options - surgery might be one of them. Thanks
