I'm so glad I'm not alone!

Postby hallmama » 04 Feb 2013, 14:13

Hi all,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I have struggled with AFs for 12 years now. I have always noticed a direct correlation with my fiber and water intake with my AFs. In the past 5 years I've had 4 children and it has really effected my AF. I had a C-section with each child and I had severe constipation after each baby and it just tore me up. I seemed to heal fairly quickly until this last child. He's 6 months old and I still bleed when I have a bowel movement. Fiber and water intake doesn't seem to effect whether or not I bleed.
I also developed a skin tag that I've had for awhile but in the past month it has grown so much that I'm very alarmed. I haven't been to a doctor recently and have an appointment to be seen hopefully within the next month after my doctors referral.
Doctors in the past have just told me to improve my diet and have blown me off otherwise. I'm really interested in reading what you all have done to help heal the AFs as well as how the surgeries went. Surgery makes me nervous but I'm tired of being in pain when I have a BM.
I don't talk about this with anyone really because it is such a sensitive topic. It's nice to have a place to speak openly.

welcome! you can certainly talk about af with us:) sorry to hear that you have been suffering for so long.i had blood in my stool for a while too. the only thing that seemed to make the bloody stools slowly stop was three things.diet, metamucil combined with miralax. fiber made stool too bulky and miralax made stool too loose. i finally talked to crs on phone and he said to take both. it has helped alot so far. i still poop 2-3 times a day and each one hurts and i take a bath after the first one. after the 2nd and 3rd one i just jump in shower and rinse only my butt with one of those hose sprayers (its like a shower head on end of hose. i found this feels good and it blast the area clean. i havent cleaned my anal area with soap in a while either, i just use shower sprayer. the soaps can iritate fissure i read.

Hi! I'm new here too. I just had my skin tag removed today and dont know what to expect. Well, pain I guess. The procedure was pretty painless for me. Just numbed it up, only stung for a second or two, snipped it out and done. Well with that part. The bad stuff is yet to come I fear. So glad I found this site!
And it is a sensitive topic. I didnt go to the doc about it for almost 20 yrs!!

Hallmama, sorry to hear about your pain and suffering, we all familiar in one way or another what it is to be afflicted with fissures.
About the skin tag, don't be alarmed, mine has gone so big in the last year that I can cover my entire anal opening with it, when is just narrow in the bottom is an actual skin tag and can be snipped away, but when is a sentinel pile like you probably have it comes from the inside and around the anal opening and usually required stitches after removal, I am ready to do something about mine and my fissure.
If the doctor you are seen is not a colorectal specialist, then you should ask for one or a referral to one and see what options are there for you.
Don't be afraid we here know how hard is to live with fissures.
