Bleeding but less pain?

Postby revma3 » 23 Oct 2013, 13:27

I still bleed during every BM, quite a bit, but my pain is less during and after - what does this mean? Anyone heal in terms of pain but continue bleeding for awhile?

Maybe your fissure is healing, but the blood is coming from a haemorrhoid further up. Do you feel tight or pressure during BM?

Hi. I'm new on here and YEs this is happening with me at the moment. I'm currently 4 weeks into using rectogesic and wondered if using this has affected the amount of blood in the area. I am certainly in less pain than 4 weeks ago when going to the loo but I think some of the pain is now attributed to piles too- which may be the cause of the bleeding. I did see a private doctor before starting rectogesic, but short of paying up to see him again, there is no one else to ask!

I still am tight and sore after a BM, just not as sore as before, less knife more external spasm, soreness, but still bleeding too - so I guess I am not healed.

Hi revma3. It is worrying when there is bleeding. Are you using any medication on it? At the moment I don't have that knife pain(fissure splitting open) and it's far less painful doing bm but after I am still sore most of the day. I'm putting this down to internal hem. Maybe it is the same with you?

I relate to this post. I have a fissure since July and feel very confused since it starts healing and no bleeding, but then after few weeks it gets worse and bleeds. First I thought it is a hard stool, but now I have regular bms and stool almost always very soft. I had no blood for 17 days, yet somewhat discomfort always was there. Today I had a blood again, but no pain, some burning probably. The specialist confirmed fissure. I never had hemmorids. I was not checked internally. reading this post, I understand that it could be hemorrhoid. I find that when I am stressed my fissure gets worse.

This is a very interesting thread. I have bleeding and my pain has been much better for about 3 weeks. I do periodically stop bleeding (2-3 days), but like some of you, have very soft BMs, have learned how to control my fiber, and drink lots of water.

My story is that I was being treated for a chronic fissure until about a month ago when the CRS did an examination and told me "you are not presenting like a typical fissure case". When I questioned him more, he said that I had multiple lesions and much scar tissue. He said he would refer me to someone who might help (a surgeon, go figure...my CRS only does colonoscopies, nothing else), but was hesitant because there was so much damage--probably from previous, poorly done banding. That evening, after being examined, I developed a thrombosed hemmoroid and ended up in hospital. After three days bleeding, pain, painkillers and bed rest, my fissure symptoms became less, spasms went away and now I suffer only from local pain and a pain in my tailbone.

I guess my point is...we are all different and even though we go through similar symptoms and cycles of pain and bleeding, it is important to get an accurate diagnosis. This is where our doctors are failing us. I don't think bleeding from the bum is a good thing ANYTIME, but we all are so used to having doctors tell us that this is just the way it is, that we don't give it enough attention. Keep trying to find a doctor who can help. Most GPs will say you have hemmoroids, but there can be many other things going on down there. Trust your instincts and try not to go from website to website looking at symptoms. The info on this forum seems to be the best for me, but like anything else, I need to filter it and try to look at what might apply to my case.

Good luck and keep us posted. Remember, healing a fissure can take a long time and you need to treat yourself well with good food, lots of water, rest and decent medical care.

Thanks hootienannie. You make a very good point about everyone having different issues and needing care that is specific to the case. For example my fissure stems from a traumatic birth. Although my tear healed well from the outside I am sure that internally things are not healed completely. I am elated today as I had the first painless bm in a year! And only some discomfort afterwards. It is my daughters 1st birthday next Monday. So don't be disheartened revma3. Maybe trying to seek some advice from a different doctor may be a plan as hootienannie suggests.

Revma3,
Having read a lot of posts on this site similar to yours, the one thing that comes across really strongly is to measure your improvement in terms of pain levels & NOT blood.
Obviously if you are getting and losing a worrying amount of blood, don't hesitate to go back and discuss it with your CRS but the fact that your pain is reduced considerably is an excellent sign (and if you are healing naturally, it takes a long time! -About 14 months in my case!)
Internal aggravated hems are also very likely candidates for some bleeding, but for now, just persist in all the excellent work you've been doing, keep your stools super soft with no excessive straining or over wiping, and continue to plot your progress.
If the bleeding is related to the fissure, then this will get better as the fissure heals up and the scar tissue firms up, but obviously if you have any concerns at all, please go back & get it checked out.
All the very best to you :)
