Recovery Times for LIS

Postby vdb324 » 19 Feb 2014, 23:23

How long was your recovery time? My CRS said two days... It sounds like most people took two weeks, though. I even asked, and he's like, "close to two days, but you can take more if you need it." He said it was similar in pain and scope to having my skin tag removed, which put me out for 5 days (including the surgery day and a weekend).

For those who had LIS, how long were you told and how long did you take?

I just had LIS today. When the lady from the CRS office filled out the paperwork for my employer, she said that it usually takes 2-4 weeks to recover to where you actually feel better. She said, the doctors say just a few days but usually that isn't long enough. I decided on 3 weeks and am hoping to feel better sooner.

The discharge papers I got today say to resume normal activity tomorrow! Hah! I don't know anyone whose normal level of activity would allow for a shower or bath 3x a day at least... Plus the side effects of the pain meds (dizziness, nausea, etc) and the fact that sitting is not an option.

Thanks, hoonoo. I am hoping for a quick recovery, seeing I am low on sick days from all of the other procedures I have tried!

I had LIS 6 weeks ago.

My experience is:
Can return to normal life after ~7-10 days
Fissure heals in about ~4 weeks
Incision heals in ~7-10 weeks

At 6 weeks in, most of the incision site is healed. Still a very minor amount of trace blood and weeping from the incision site from time to time.

After surgery, the follow-up appointments have been:

1 Week - Check for no infection
3 Weeks - Check Healing. Had "excess" healing material/skin cauterized to help heal faster.
7 Weeks - TBD. Final Checkup ?

Thanks, RecoveringAF. That sounds similar to what I was expecting when compared to my tag removal/Botox procedure.

My doc, when I asked him how long I should consider staying out of work, said 2 to 3 weeks. He then told me he did LIS on another doctor on a Friday who was back doing his own surgeries on Monday. I had my LIS yesterday (Friday) and have booked the next week off work.

Hi everyone,
I'm scheduled for LIS April 4th. My doctor said the same thing--2 days recovery! I thought that was bogus. I'm concerned because I have a 5 month old at home and am wondering if I'll need to solicit help from family during that time. Any moms on here in the same boat?

Newmommy: you will want help! Better to plan to need it and end up not needing it, than to plan for an easy time and end up needing help!

Congrats on getting surgery scheduled!

i have a two and four year old and definitely need help! just had my surgery this am. Very uncomfortable! Luckily my mom is here and my husband is a very involved dad. I concur, plan for the extra hands and then its a bonus if you don't need it. Best of luck!
