34 days Post-Op and going on vacation...HELP Please!

Postby TiredOfHurting » 03 Jun 2014, 13:15

Hello,

Quick history here....I had a fissurectomy on 4/30 to remove a fissure....It's been a long, rough recovery...I am finally starting to feel partially human again...I have good and bad days....My families beach vacation begins this weekend 6/8....I am very nervous about it because of this....We will be in the car for several hours...And although I feel much better...One little thing can still have me in lots of pain and trying to find a way to get sit comfortably....I really do not want to be miserable over this trip!

Please give me tips on what I should be eating until the trip and during to help keep BM's as easy as possible...I find that TOO MUCH fiber makes things move too much and actually irritates more than helps....I can't seem to find a happy medium somewhere......I usually do mira lax once in the morning...I do not have a specific diet I follow and I throw in Benefiber and Fiber supplement pills here and there....I am not great about staying on a perfect plan....but trying to get better about it!! Especially this week! My doctor has been very little help at giving me advice...He was a great surgeon, but not great follow up....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I would say just keep eating what you're eating.... Seems to be working for you so far! Keep up with the mirilax... Bring it on holiday with you. Try and remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day on your holiday too... It's all to easy to go off somewhere for a few hours and forget to drink enough.
Bring some pain killers with you, incase you need them.
Have a wonderful relaxing break!! Just what the dr ordered eh!

I went on a road trip when my fissure was bad. I brought a little soft cushion with me, so that I could put it under my bottom to ease whatever discomfort I had at the time. At different times, different positions of the cushion would help. So having it small and easily squashed into different shapes was very useful.
Good luck. I hope you will be able to enjoy the holiday even with the pain. I did have a lot of pain on the trip, and especially at night (very difficult to manage pain in a small tent that you share with someone!), but I would have had the same pain at home, so it was better to have things to take my mind off it. And now I barely remember the pain, and just remember how wonderful the trip was in other ways.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
