One thing that puzzles me, is that you write that you had your fissure for two months, it healed, and thats 4 months ago.
Usually a fissure takes at least a few months to heal but you make it sounds like it happened overnight? Can you maybe tell us a bit more about this?

Anyway, if you really have been healed for 4 months, I would say, any pain beyond 1-2 on a scale to 10 sounds wrong, and should be looked at.

Yes I've had several checks by different doctors and I have even done a colonoscopy and nothing has been detected since my fissure has "healed". I don't bleed with every BM but I do once in a while (about 5 times in the month of July). I've also had 20-25 days of pain (stinging, burning pain during and after BM) and soreness.

JHH,

I first saw my gynecologist who stated that I had hemorrhoids since I just had a baby and she referred me to a surgeon. The surgeon told me I had a fissure which was causing me pain, he prescribed me Nifedipine. I applied it for 8 weeks and I felt no improvement since I was still having pain while having BM but when he checked me, he stated that the fissure was healed. I too thought that I would be pain free overnight but that has not been the case :( I'm on 6 months now... I am trying to figure out what I is wrong with me; If I don't have a fissure then what is causing me this anal pain? I am not a doctor and its hard trying to figure out what is wrong with me...I just want my life back!!!

Well... Im sorry, but from what you are writing, Im not convinced your fissure is healed. Blood and stinging during BM, and burning pain after, sounds like a fissure to me.

Hi Alyssa,

Sorry that you are still in pain and don't even know where it's coming from. That kind of uncertainty is the worst and I know because I've been there.
However, I have to agree with JHH that your fissure doesn't sound healed to me. Now , we are not doctors and can only speak from personal experience. I have been on this awful road of pain for 2 years now and I'm just going to share what I feel I have learnt about this horrendous ailment.
Since you say you have blood almost once every week, it needs to be investigated where the blood is coming from. Is it a fissure, a hemmie, what is it? If one doctor can't find it, I would pursue another one and another one and so on until I get an answer. I know it's easier said than done but the source of blood would be my first concern.
Since the time I have been declared "healed", my pain feels somewhat different from the fissure pain. It feels more like super sore muscles although it starts at exactly the same spot where I had my fissure. I also feel it in my lower back.
I think the absolute telling symptom for my pelvic floor tightness is the fact that I can't empty my bowels in one go. I have to go twice 45 minutes apart. When i told this to my doc, he sounded pretty convinced that this not fissure pain but muscle tightness. Basically, my muscles have become conditioned to expect pain when I have a BM from the time the fissure started 2 years ago. So even though it healed, muscles are still tight and do not relax while I have a BM. I started physiotherapy recently and it's too early to say how it's going but we'll see.
So my advice to you would be that try second/third opinions from doctors because blood and burning are classic fissure/re-tear symptoms.
Good luck!
SSK

Thank you SSK, I am not giving up... I too have been doing physical therapy for 3 months now since my muscles are tight but I don't feel I have had much improvement with it which is the reason I have been referred to another specialist in San Francisco. I had a consultation with her over the phone and she has suggested that I try Botox so she will evaluate my condition on Monday to determine my next steps. I pray to God that she has some answers for me.

Hi A,
I do hope you can get some answers soon. As you know I too have battled with CRs who kept stating I was healed.... Please request an Anal Resting pressure test.... I think you need to find out if you have high pressure.
Hem Banding sept 2012
2Fissures
Nitro- Effective short term
April 2013-Botox-Effective short term
Diltazem-No effect, developed Rash
July 2014-Diagnosed High Resting Pressure
LIS performed on 17.9.14
Ongoing pain/re-tears. Awaiting pressure test results.

"the fact that I can't empty my bowels in one go. I have to go twice 45 minutes apart."

Ssk,

I have the same problem as you describe... Sometimes I have to go 3 times to completely empty everything out. I wish that I could just do it all at once.

Rachael,

I will ask about this test as well... One crs told me that this test was not really reliable and another one didn't mind doing it.
