For those who are a couple years post-fistulotomy

Hi all,

I have been getting weird cycles of pain in the area where and near where my fistulotomy was performed. It is all healed up on the outside (there is some red "sunburned" looking skin where the wound was and there is a small dimple, but nothing more) but I still get fluctuations of pain, usually when sitting for long periods or a few minutes after a BM (not during anymore). Coconut oil has worked wonders on the area where the wound was, but now I'm getting a weird pain slightly to the left of where the wound was...wondering if it is maybe a hem.? There is some VERY light purple to the skin at that spot (barely noticeable), perhaps its a very low grade hem? Not sure. Anyway, I'm about 20 weeks post-op now (full outer healing occurred at 14 weeks), for how long after outer healing have you guys experienced continued scar pain in the fistulotomy? I have noticed the tiny "ridge" where the scar is has moved slightly, gotten smaller and more towards the anus. There's no drainage at all (drainage practically stopped after 2 weeks post-op) and I haven't had any fever or anything, so I see no need to go to my surgeon despite the pain (I doubt he would be of much help anyway, since he usually just says "you're fine"). Should I see a scar specialist?

I work as a zoologist specializing in human-crocodile conflict and I have a trip to Indonesia coming up in July that will require to be in humid, muggy conditions where showers will prob only be once a day. I'm a little paranoid about getting so dirty again, but I'm assuming since the wound is no longer open that it shouldn't be a problem...agreed?
