I know what you mean Chacha. My original surgeon (general) told he does hemmies and hernias. That was about it. I found out recently that my CRS also does surgery on ingrown toenails! Weird!

I did not see my original surgeon on that list when I looked at it originally, Dr. Edward Gentis. I will have to look again. My current one is on there though and so is the other one I consulted with. They are pretty well the only 'colorectal surgeons' in the city. A couple of months ago when I phoned around to a number of general surgeons, I learned that there were a few of them that did fissure surgeries as well. So there is that flexibility, here at least.

When I tried to look up colorectal specialists in Toronto on ratemd, it shows that there are none, unlike the Canadian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeon's site, who show many in Toronto and the GTA.

Interesting, I just looked through the list for my city and I know, since I called them a couple months back, that most of them are listed as General Surgeons on the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons website. So I guess a person really does have to call around to find out. How frustrating!

Hi msimon......Edward Gentis is the doctor I've been seeing, nice guy but he dropped the ball on my last visit, he didn't refer to the notes from my last visit and he was surprised when I told him that he told me I had a fissure and possible infection, based in my last visit.

Geez! Sorry to hear that. So he is the one that prescribed you to sit in bleach? Interesting....

Yeah, personality-wise he was a bit unpredictable, but he did good work...

I don't blame you. You know, I was thinking about this last night and was reminded of how my current CRS, who has seen me regularly for years now, and is usually very up to date on my file when he walks in the room, mistook me for getting a second LIS. I was not there for a second LIS but rather to look after my chronic infection following my first, and only LIS. It was very odd but he has been very good since. I think sometimes even the best Doctors have their lapses. I do remember finding Dr. Gentis being 'too reassuring' to me and not very helpful with my my chronic pain when he could see no reason for it. I found him to still be quite old school as well the last time I saw him, about 6 years ago. That is, botox was not something he was familiar with for treating pain down there. He was surprised to learn that it helped me with my pelvic pain anyway.

There was a member on here a little while back that had a surgeon do their LIS and hemorrhoidectomy in Vancouver. His name is Dr Karimuddin:

This member was quite happy with their surgery and isn't posting on here anymore so I'll take that as a good sign. Anyway, I just thought I would pass that on.

Thank you so much msimon, great information. What a small world, both of us seeing the same doctor.

I agree Dr Gentis is old school, and he is not a CRS, I think he is a general surgeon, proctologist. Doesn't seem up to date.

I appreciate that name re the LIS. I am going to circle back to my family doctor and ask/demand a referral.

You are very welcome. Yes, small world indeed, and Vancouver is definitely NOT small either. He must be getting close to retirement though, I would think.

As for Dr. Karimuddin, I did hear he has a long wait, but then again who doesn't here in Canada.
