Go to the appointment Missy! From what I remember from your story, I think you should consider a procedure. I also have 2 young kids and can't imagine how I would have managed to take care of my family in the state I was before the LIS. The recovery for me is slow but worth it.

Hi missy
Botox isn't a waste of time at all especially if your fissure is not too deep. I know a couple of people on here have found healing through Botox
My CRS who specialises in patients with IBD does a lot of Botox and he has a 85-90% success rate.
I loved my Botox stopped my spasms straight away and the burning after 6/8 weeks.
It's up to you but have a chat with your CRS see if they can recommend a colleague who maybe does more than 1 a year.
Good luck

Hey thanks for your reply the 4 surgeons aren't rectal specialist but are general sourgons who have does extra study's an more bum stuff then the others she said the other 3 would have done more then her an I'll likely end up with one of them doing it she said it's simple they just clean the fissure up with a little scoopy thing then put in botox she didn't use the word fisserictimy just that the by standard procedure they clean up the fissure before botox an they have a good look while there to make sure all else is fine in there she said you mite just not be able to hold gas but that's it I'm worried about it being worse afterwards at the noment when things are good I can't even tell I hsve a fissure no feeling at all and I can even sit up right with no feeling of discomfort but when it's bad it's like passing glass an I can't sit I have to lay down i don't get painful spasms I've been using diltiazem for 4 months with set backs but the set backs don't last as long as before starting the cream. She never felt the fissure so don't know how deep it is she just checked tone with a finger an said my tone is high

Ah I see yes a clean up is a fissurectomy to tidy the edges and make healing better with less scar tissue
It will probably sting more for a week or so as the fissure will be fresh again but I guess it what your willing to put up with and how badly your setbacks effect you.
If you have a high resting tone then it may not heal without the Botox. Only you know if it's worth it

Very true i just wish i could see into the future try it then if I don't like it go back again hahaha wishful thinking. But she said I need to bulk my stools so my muscle can get use to being stretched butbive been told on here an by other doctors make sure your stools are like softtserve icecream so which is it? My behind can't pass anything bigger then my thumb it seems most times other wise it retears I'm so confused could diltiazem work if just stuck at it long term thinks seem different in a good why like the fissure is healing inside out slowly an the setbacks are less then before it hurts during bm with a setback an only hurt for a few days then uncomfortable for a few days then fine for a few weeks I don't know this stuff does my head in I'm scared if I get botox an fissurectomy that the fissurectomy will only make the fissure bigger or deeper an I'll pass gas in front of people an then still be where I am today but with I tampered with fissure after the botox where's off I mean. Am I better with the devil I know then the devil I don't? As some say! Thank you so much for talking with me my partner is sick of hearing me go back an forth but these mess with your emotions an decision making : /

Hi Missy, sorry to hear you're still going through pain. My CRS never even offered Botox bc it's doesn't have a high success rate. I had both fissurectomy and LIS and that's what I would recommend. Fissurectomy cleans up the tear so that it will have the best chance to heal. For the first 2 weeks after fissurectomy, it will hurt and sting really bad. But it will start to heal. The risk of going with Botox is if it doesn't work, you might need another fissurectomy along with LIS. Sending you hugs and love, Good luck

Hi guys so I had my appointment now I'm booked for a fissurectomy an botox in 2 weeks time just scared because 1 surgeon told me it's a waste of tine just go for the lis then the next 1 said give botox an fissurectomy a go can't make anything worse but she only does about 1 a year that freaks me out an what if it's not better an i have to wait months till the botox wears off? Will botox an a fissurectomy allow my muscle to stretch better for ever? Because at the moment it just doesn't stretch well even for perfectly formed soft stool. Thanks in advance for all your help an support.
