Hi,
This is my first time posting but I've been checking this forum out for a while. I'm not exactly sure what caused the fissure but here is what I think happened.
-In 2008 I was suffering from hemmeroids and using Prep H with the applicator. One day I think I gave my self a fissure by accident. It was so puffy down there that I think I missed the main hole and made my self a new one if you get my drift. Then came the pain. The real pain. Can't take it pain. I didn't think hemmeroids could be that painful so I went to a Gastro-Doc fearing that it was colon cancer. He diagnosed me with a fissure, prescribed me some diltiazem cream, and scheduled me for a colonoscopy since my grandpa died of colon cancer. Between the diltiazem and changing my diet, the fissure went away! So I didn't get the coloscopy at that time because I was broke and the deductable was ridiculous.
-A few months ago I got constipated and guess who's back. Mr. Fissure. I'm a traveling band teacher and a working drummer which means I'm constantly driving or sitting down at my drumset. Trying to live when you're in agony is hell. Life doesn't stop for fissures. I tried to make it go away by "being good" but it just kept getting worse. Ended up in the ER the pain was so bad. That was pointless. Wait around all day to see a doctor who prescribed me some hydrocortizone suppositories and vicodin. Really, vicodin! I wasn't about to eat any of those.
I finally got an appointment to see a Gastro-doc who again schedule me for a coloscopy and prescribed me diltiazem which helped right away. It made me feel so much better that I thought that I could just eat whatever I wanted to again as long as I was taking the dilt and the miralax. Wrong! One giant dump and I'm writhing in pain. You know, when you can't find a possition that is comfortable. You're just f***ed. Called the doc who told me to go get a bottle of Magnesium Citrate and prescribed me some Tramadol. That helped. Tramadol isn't supposed to make you constipated and I think it helped a tiny bit. I also had my coloscopy but haven't had the follow up appointment yet.
So here I am, using diltiazem and miralax everyday. Plus, sitzbaths, eating the right things, rubbing the bottom of my feet with natural 'amoils', horsechestnut, horsetail, MSM, and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil before bed. The pain is way less severe but the fissure doesn't seem to be healing so fast this time. We'll see what the doc has to say.
I've learned a lot about fissures from this forum. And although it's not exacly comforting reading everyones horror stories (OMG), It is comforting knowing that I'm not alone. Fear goes hand in hand with pain and so many of you have it so much worse than I do! I am so sorry for what you've all been dealing with.
Sincerely,
-Dave
