I had the trigger point injections and they were not very helpful. I found Botox injections to the pelvic floor to be more helpful with pain and tension reduction. I would suggest that you only see someone who has a lot of experience in this before getting anything done.
I can understand the reluctance with getting injections. But for me I had plateaued with PT and I needed more intervention. In general they are low risk for infections. Although I did find that my internal hemorrhoids grew a bit larger, not sure why though.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy
