Anniebee - welcome to the forum. Sorry you are suffering but glad you found us...your fellow fissure travellers.
My motto is - whatever makes you feel better works! If ice works then embrace it and use it. I used to find sitting on ice packs soothing....would sit for 15/20 mins then take a break and repeat. Just try to make sure you use a towel to wrap the ice so it does not damage the skin.
I wouldn't be surprised if you find over time that heat will also begin to feel good. Likely you will adjust what you use over time.
