When you take your Miralax (or other softener)

Postby SunshineHope » 02 Oct 2008, 02:42

Hey all,
Was just wondering, for those here who take Miralax or any other stool softener, would you take it at the end or beginning of your day? I was wondering because... If you take it in the morning or before eating, wouldn't it aid digestion more and break down the food that you are about to eat, before it goes in? If that makes sense? If you ever did happen to eat something hard e.g. a taco shell, isn't it better to take the stool softener before you eat? Or do you guys take it at the end of your day so it'll get working while you're asleep?
Hopefully this q makes some sense.

I take my Miralax at bedtime and also midday. It causes me to have at least 2 bm's a day.

I take miralax in the morning since it takes longer to work and then MOM at night before bed.

I think this is a very interesting question !!!
I have always believed that laxatives take 8 hours or so to come through - This is the case for me anyway, so I have always taken miralax/movicol just before bedtime to ensure 2 nice soft poops in the morning - mornings only are my routine !!!
I think if I was to take it in the morning I would most defo poop by early evening Image

You are right, tabby. Most laxatives do take a while to take effect. Unless the person has a high metabolism and fast food transit times, there can be some slight variation.
We should all eat green dye and see how long it takes!! Image

Well, if you didn't have a fissure, you could try dry-roasted nuts (now, swallow them whole!)
Blue would be a cool color, too. My granddaughter had eaten some blue candy once and plopped a blue turd while she was potty-training that scared the begeezus out of me once!!

i take movicol before bedtime and it helps me to have soft BMs in the morning.I used to take it twice before but i ended up having 6-7 small BMs throughout the day and in the middle of the night as well.so im sticking to once a day.
