Why is this happening?

Postby msimon » 15 Dec 2014, 19:31

I had my LIS surgery 4.5 weeks ago and things seem so spastic down there. Today my BMs have become super-narrow again and I couldn't empty. It feels like it did before my LIS! How is this even possible? I thought cutting that muscle would prevent that and up until yesterday it had helped. Although I still had to be quite loose and it still came out rather narrow. Things have been spastic since my surgery but this is the worst and feels like it's damaging my fissure and incision site :(

Does this mean my CRS was too conservative? He said he cut 5-6mm. Is that a 'normal' amount? Should I try ointment?

I haven't had the LIS yet but my surgeon said she will want me to stay on the ointment for at least a couple months afterward. I'm not a doctor but I would if I were you.

Thanks Zippitydoodah. Do you mean to say that your doc wants you to use the ointment right away after your surgery?

Yep! We haven't talked about the days immediately following the surgery, but she gave me a prescription for 12 months' worth of the diltiazam and said that I should stay on it even once I feel like I've healed, until the prescription runs out. I see that that particular ointment was not the best option for you, so maybe best to check with your CRS.

Are you feeling any better today? My heart is going out to you - must be so frustrating!

My pencil poop continued and I tore my fissure and bled today. So much pain. SO much despair. Went to a surgeon (filling in for my CRS) today to check on the infection and said that looked gone and he incision site is almost healed but the fissure is open and bleeding :( I also have a lot of swelling again on the LIS side and can hardly walk or even pass gas. Can't believe this is happening. Can't stop thinking about how I am going to poop tomorrow. Seems I have forgotten how to relax those muscles. Really feel like giving up. Don't think it's even going to turn out now :(

I'm so sorry msimon..... I feel for you I really do. Maybe you could try having a bm in your sitz bath if you have one?? Fill it with warm water.... It might help to relax things??

I'm also terribly sad to hear that, msimon. =( I know it's easier said than done but please do not give up on yourself! Of course it's totally natural to have days when you're really down, and really frustrated. But nothing lasts forever. And in the meantime, keep coming back here. You are not alone!

I look forward to hearing your success story someday. And it will give hope and strength to those who come after us.
