Anal fissure for 10 months - losing hope

Postby evalinghan » 03 Aug 2017, 00:58

Hi everyone,

I am 22 years old and have had anal fissure for 10 months. I was given some ointment (experimental, only made in Denmark) that helped it heal to ~99%. However, it has reopened and healed several times taking ~6 weeks for every re-tear heal (~4 times). I had a bad case of traveler's diarrhea resulting in an extremely painful re-tear that is taking extra long to heal. It has also started itching at random times suddenly during the heal. I have recently moved to America and changing to an American treatment plan.

I know people have been through way worse than me, but I really lose hope every time I re-tear. I don't know how I can get a permanent heal? Do you have suggestions? Also I am looking for suggestions to what kind of treatment plan I should be looking in to in America (what kind of ointments etc.). I have also been thinking about the botox injection, but I have read a lot of horror stories from people who got permanent nerve damage from it.

Thank you very much for your attention!

Hi Eva,

Have you thought about anal dilation? There is a really good specialist in Portland Oregon. His name is Dr. Cranford and he works at the Sandy Rectal Clinic. Google it and check his procedure called the Cranford Technic or something like that.

I have been doing self dilation which takes longer but can also be effective.

Also I have have been drinking banana smoothies for breakfast which really seems to help keep bowel nice and soft. Blend together the following:

-3 ripe bananas (make sure they are ripe, and not raw. you want the ones that have black spots on the peel.
-2 tbsp of ground flax seed
- 1/2 a cup of oatmeal
- 8 OZ of almond mikl
- tsp of Cinnamon

Hope this helps!

I've had Botox and I can recommend it as a step between ointments and surgery. There are many academic studies of Botox used for anal fissures and side effects are extremely rare even temporary ones. It's obviously essential to find a CRS who has high success rates with Botox rather than one who grudgingly uses it.
