My SIL has a 1 month old, she's been taking metamucil to help with hard stools ( on my advice!) but the last few days the baby has diarrhea. Could the metamucil b causing this? And if so, is there an alternative that she can use? Thanx...

i know this post is old, but for the sake of people who may search for this topic i'll add:
same thing happened to me. my baby was pooping way more than usual when i was taking metamucil and colace. i switched to miralax, which helped me more and my baby stopped being affected.

I've been taking Metamucil daily for a year. Seven month old baby and if anything, he's constipated at the moment. Is day each baby reacts differently.
