Can a butt go into shock?

Postby chrishell » 03 Feb 2010, 09:53

I was wondering if anyone has had the problem of their butt going into "shock" mode when a fissure and skin tag develop? I was going along fine for a short while and then Sunday my life turned around again! I had 3 bms and by the end of the day could barely stand or walk.
Now it seems that I cannot have a bm (and I mean can't not won't) even though I definitely want to go. I can feel the need, unfortunately the it seems the butt has decided not to relax enough to allow this to happen. I am on 2 stool softeners and miralax every day. Still nothing happening.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and what, if anything, helped? I am desperate as I am scheduled for LIS on Friday 2/5 and have to use 1 enema the night before and two the morning of:groan: . HELP!!

I never had that problem that your going through but butts don't really go into shock. It's just spasming/tightening real bad.I know time is of the essence since your surgery date is on Friday but if you can make a quick appt.with your gp tomorrow and ask him to prescribe nitroglycerin so you can apply it and it should loosen up your sphincter in time so you can do your enema.Have you tried sitz bathing it?I know when it's really tight not even sitz can work but bombarding it with heat might help,if you have a heat pad use it as often as you can.try comboing your stool softener with milk of magnesia or a couple of glass of prune juice. In the mean time you must stay calm because stress can only make it more difficult to bm.At worse you may have to just have to postpone your surgery so cheer up.If you have to postpone it just ask your doctor to prescribe you nitro, nif,or diltiazem to hold you over so you won't go through this situation again.Hopefully someone will chime in with a better solution but thats all I can think of at the moment.Hope I was of help to you...take care.

I did have that problem immediately after my recent dilation, was worried that when I did it would be a blockbuster. But everything was ok.
Have also had this sometimes when I have travelled abroad when younger.

Thanks afugh and Del.
At the moment I am on Nif tablets at 30 mg a day and diltiazem gel 5 - 6 times a day. This whole thing kind of came as a absolute shock as I was going along pretty well for about a month. Then a bumper day on Sunday (after I had set up the surgery to finally loosen up) and my butt put me back to the initial days.
The bath (full body) helps relax it while I am in it and turning pink from heating it up. But it seems the shortly after getting out I am back in the mode of every movement of the body hurts, and heaven forbid I cough!
I am thinking of lounging in the bath and immediately after getting out using the enema. I do not think there is a problem that can be worse than butt problems (serious health problems not included). Image

That is a typical spasm that I had on MOST days of my fissure era !!!!
Yes- do whatever you can to make that poop move out : ((( ! If it is enema - than be it ! Can you use extra MOM or Miralax !!!??? I know that when I used Miralax for the first time I used full dose and got to go in 20 min and EVERY 20 mind 5 times : (((. It was very powerful stuff, man Image Image Image !!!!
Since it is in such a strong spasm - you really want it almost liquid : ((.
Can they give you some Vallium until you "evacuate" : ( ???
Oh boy - do I feel for you : ((( - I have "flash-backs" now Image Image Image

I had my surgery on Friday and I am so thrilled with the outcome Image ! I went in for the surgery for the LIS and the CRS talked to me prior to going under to explain what he planned to do.
After surgery he explained things were worse in there than expected and he closed 2 fissure, one that over 1 1/2" long and the LIS. In all he gave me 5 stitches, of which I can only see one.
He also took 4 biopsies because there was a lot of ulceration. Does anyone know what ulcers inside can be caused from? I did not even know I had any ulcerated areas.

I forgot to add the most exciting part of this...I can go to the bathroom and not be in the worst pain imaginable! It is no longer the worst thing in my life! I still am tender and the stitches like to poke, showers and baths still required, but the lack of pain after a bm is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
I had forgotten what it felt like to just be able to have a bm and then still be able to walk after. Image

Great, Chris! Ulcers can be caused by Crohn's also. But that is probably not the situation in your case.

That is wonderful news Chris !!!
I also hope that biopsy will not show Crohn - but even if it does - there are so many new treatments for it and it can be very well managed. Ulceration is usually indication of the inflammatory process going on : (( and your fissure was really big and deep , oh boy : (((.
Try to concentrate now on healing and getting well : )) !!!
Best of luck !!!!!
