Dr Appt today...

Postby Deedee62 » 18 Apr 2011, 10:21

I went in and he looked at the fissure. It is open again. So now I have to use the Nifedipine for a while more and he added Miralax. I see him again on May 23rd and they will schedule my colonoscopy then. Feeling very discouraged and hoping that the ointment will help heal me to that this pain stops!!!

Does anyone else have a LOT of bowel sounds? Mine sounds like an oncoming thunderstorm - I can't believe all this noise!! I will feel a lot better when I can get the scope done. All this nausea, left sided cramping/pain and the pain from the AF is exhausting!

Oh yeah! For me it's all the fiber and I can produce gas at any given moment too! Are you getting some relief with the nifedipine? I've been trying it when the spasms start but it still doesn't do anything for me. O well, 10 days to go and three days till I have to stop the ibuprofen. I think I may b able to continue with muscle relaxants til the day before tho, I'm calling tomorrow to double check.

The nifedipine was working great at first - I just about had it healed and then it tore again. Trying another round of it - 3 x a day and will see if I get the same result and this time it heals!

Then there is the nausea, left sided cramping/pain and the pain from the AF to contend with. Just wishing I could get this scope done so that I can get a clean bill of health or at least find out what else is going on!

hey Dee - I don't recall reading in your posts what the colonoscopy is for. Does your doc think you might have something specific or are they just taking a look? Your symptoms sound a bit like IBS, but it is a good idea to rule out other, more serious, conditions. I developed IBS-like symptoms when my butt trouble started and I make lots of loud bowel sounds too (and I'm not taking any fiber supplements!). I found some probiotics that seem to be helping with all my symptoms. Have you tried any?
Actually, this might sound strange, but my bowel issues settled down quite a bit after I had a colonoscopy in February. I really hope you can get yours done, that it goes smoothly, and that you get good results!
Elphie - I'm on Ibuprofen and robaxecet. I'm curious to hear about whether or not you can continue with the muscle relaxants up until the surgery. It's 9 days now, isn't it? So close ...!

The colonoscopy is in followup to the one I had 11 years ago. My mother had colon cancer and it runs in her family - her older brother had it as well. My Dad had esophageal cancer and it also appeared in his colon. He died in 1990. My mother is a 12 year survivor, thanks to early detection.
With me, it could be IBS - we just want to make totally sure....

I can definitely understand why the colonoscopy is important for you. And I'm really glad that your doctors are serious about making sure to rule out serious problems. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you heal up well enough for the scope and that you get good results.

Well, I've also been on ibuprofen and robaxacet since November best combo I've found! Doc says ibuprofen is out but everything else is ok until night before surgery. I won't even know what time it's at until the night before when they call...
Colonoscopy also a good idea. As soon as Im in better shape I'm having one too, after this past year I'm never taking my butt for granted again!
