Finding a surgeon...

Postby Guest » 27 Nov 2006, 13:53

Hello all,
I'm wondering how those of you who have had the surgery went about choosing your surgeon. I'd like to find someone with a proven track record for this particular procedure but I'm not sure where to start.
I hope all's well with everyone!
Thank you :)

Hey Sara - great question!
I think it is a bit different between the public and the private sections, I just went and saw my local GP - she searched her 'database' and selected a few surgeons that she knew of that were good, then we picked out a couple that specialised in rectal surgery - then from there I picked the one that was located closest to my work as I knew I'd have to make a couple of trips there.
I had the option of going private or public - I chose public hospital because the wait was really not much difference and I was assured that my surgeon would still do the surgery.
As it turned out, my surgeon was 'just there' and did not actually perform the surgery, but luckilly for me the lady who did, was wonderful.
If I could do it again, I think I would go private - there are more choices with surgeons, and I think the after care would have been better.. I was pretty much thrown out the door still drowsy Image
I'm sure the health systems in each country work differently - so make sure you do your research well before booking anything!!
Hope this helps Image

finding a surgeon

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while. Goin' crazy at work!!!! I am very lucky to actually work in the hospital where my LIS was done. I know the surgeons so i had the inside scoop on all of them. I even give my surgeon updates in the hallway. :D I think the best advice is research, research , research. Did I mention research Image It is very easy to take the first surgeon available when you need relief from the pain. Even though i know my surgeon, i asked questions till i thought he was going to kick me out of his office. My doc was great. I agree with Cheryl that they seem to do these drive thru surgeries and shove you out the door when your still drooling from the meds. I just asked if i could go to the bathroom and as soon as i came out they had me going out the door. I wanted to stay a little longer. But i guess they figure that you can sleep at home. Who knows. I had my surgery done in a private surgery center afilliated with the hospital where i work. I think nowadays that the private is just as bad as the public with sending you home before you are really ready. Good luck!!

It wasn't really embarrassing for me at all. But I work in the medical field and you realize that you and all the doctors detach yourself from the exam. Nobody is actually thinking, OMG i am looking at her ass!!! Image It is just another day at the office , so to speak. After all, i see my gynecologist in the cafeteria every day. That is just as weird, but you don't really even think about it. He even asked me if i wanted to watch a surgery for an ectopic pregnancy I found on ultrasound. It is a unique relationship when you work with the docs that also treat you medically.
I am actually glad i know most of them and their skill level. It sure comes in handy when you or a family member needs something done. It makes you feel alot more at ease and confident about the whole thing. I thank my surgeon everytime i go to the bathroom. And you will too pretty soon. Good Luck.
