Hey Steve,
Sorry to hear you are not healing as quickly as you had hoped. It does sound like things are getting better, but slowly.
I think you should stick to a good regimen until your next appointment, and hopefully by then things will be much improved. I hope things get better soon Steve.

Hey Steve, don't get discouraged yet -- remember that I kept complaining about being in more pain after surgery than before for quite a while too, hence my extended Vicodin use. Personally I don't think slow healing after surgery, particularly one in an area so moist and constantly used, is very unusual at all. It still sucks, that much is certain, but it doesn't necessarily mean that your overall trajectory is off. Hang tight and give it more time, and take more painkillers if you have to, that's one area where I definitely wasn't shy haha.

Thanks cheryl, I know that one day all this will be a distant memory, time is a great healer, and thanks for sharing with Dwight.

It's now 8 hours since my last post and I have no pain, I can't work it out, this morning I had discomfort after several BM's but throughout the day it has dissipated and now totally disappeared, I keep getting the odd spasm but it's not painful, I've started using Kamillosan Chamomile ointment on my anus so maybe that has eased the stinging, it's mainly used for women with sore nipples after breast feeding but is also for any other sore skin complaints, anyway it can't do any harm and since Chamomile has healing properties I thought it would help.

NG, I do recall you complaining about the pain for a long time after LIS, I think you're right about taking painkillers for as long as needed, I gave them up too quick in fear of constipation.
I agree, how can the area heal when it's in constant use, I know it will, but will take a long time because of where it's situated, LIS patients should be fitted with a stoma to keep the rectum out of action until healing is complete, not everyone will agree but it does sound like a logical thing to do..

Steve,
I shared your situation with Dwight and also about your avatar, which he thought was hilarious. (You may recall that he's a hospice chaplain and a part-time minister.)

Hey guys...
I seem to be doing much better today, had several BM's this morning, minor discomfort followed but only lasted several hours, using Chamomile ointment regular which seems to be doing something, I really believe in the healing properties of Chamomile, I've stopped the Fybogel as a second stool softener, it's not needed with the foods I'm already eating and the Movicol will stay for the rest of my life if it has to, at this point it's fair to say I'm feeling pretty positive about the outcome despite yesterdays setback, I should of known that setbacks are bound to occur during recovery and I have to be patient, still doing visualization in the bath which is another thing I really believe in.

That's good to hear Steve. Just take it one day at a time and keep thinking positive And pray (if you pray).
