Hey Steve,
How goes the battle? Are you any better? Have you been back to your surgeon for your follow up yet?
I hope things are improving for you.

Hi phil, I'm doing ok but still get pain from the surgery sites after BM, nothing during though, I do feel it's getting better as I've had some really good days, I just want every day to be good...
My follow up appointment is on the 17th sept, I will get to know if this thing is actually healing or not, I'm hoping that I don't get examined with the finger Image

Well I'm glad to hear it's getting better. I'm sure it will keep getting better. It's been a long haul for you.
Good luck on the 17th and let us know how it goes.

Yes Steve. Please post how your follow up goes. I'm six weeks post lis and still have pain at the incision site...as you read in the other thread. Doc said it was unusual and put me on antibiotics. He advised me to keep up w/the hot "showers" but I'd already been doing that (gave up on sitz baths tho) plus using makeshift bidet every time I use the bathroom. I've never been so sick of water. Also seemed to have gained some bumpy thing that's disturbing me...one more thing to make me focus on my butt Image Forgive the long post. I know you had more done than I did but since you still have some type of pain I'd be interested to know what your doc says.

hey next..
I'll be interested in what the doc has to say too, I keep having good and bad days and am a bit confused with the whole ordeal, I really thought I'd be pain free by now but this is clearly not the case, I'm not sure about the fissure site since I keep getting discomfort from it after BM, it's a bit like before surgery if I'm honest with the exception of having a "looser" bum.
Today I've had some really watery BM's and they've aggravated things somewhat, infact I've even leaked a bit of fecal matter after passing gas which really got me thinking the worst, I'm considering using some Diltiazem that I have left from before surgery but I'm not sure if it's safe to do so, I would like to know if anyone else has used Dilt after LIS without any problems?

I am three weeks post LIS. I am not healed according to CRS. He suggested I start using my nifediprine cream again (4X/day) and insert inside. According to my CRS both nifediprine and dialtezem are calcium channel blockers. So yes, you can use it. I've been using for three days and no problems yet. FYI: I was on dialtezam for 3 months before my CRS switched me to nifediprine as he prefers it over the other one. Good Luck!

Thanks for the response housewife..
Are you having pain issues after BM? I can't get to see my CRS until the 17th (Friday) then I'll ask for some Nifedipine or some more Diltiazem , I have some Diltiazem paraffin based that is over 6 months old and am unsure if I can still use it..

Yes, I'm still having pain. The pain while having a bm is about a 3 on a scale of 1 - 10 (and I have had tens prior to LIS, like I'm sure most of us here have). I also have a dull, pressure, tightness sensation that never leaves me alone higher up in the canal. THis may be something different than fissure pain though in that is related to pelvic floor problems. It is levetor ani syndome. It may be brought on by fissure pain, the second lis will tell for sure. Or it may be a result of birthing my ten pounder baby boy. Today is an optimistic day. I desperately want my life back and feel that one day I will be "normal". I am excited for the day that I do not think about my bum 24/7.
I think your dialtezam might be less effective. When I had it filled (it was mixed with vaseline by my pharmacy as we did not have a compounding one here) the pharmasist told me it lasts only about three weeks. I would call your pharmacy and ask as maybe yours was mixed differently, etc.

My pain is about 3 as well and is only present after BM but lingers through the day, I don't have as much pressure as before but still have a bit, my main concern is having a second LIS as the incontinence risk goes up, besides the post-op pain Image
I know how you feel, I desperately want my life back too, that "normal" bum feeling is somewhere out there, it sure is an exciting thought not to be thinking about your bum 24/7, I want this..
You're right about the Diltiazem being less effective, I need to wait until I see the CRS.

6 weeks check up...
I went for my 6 weeks follow up appointment today with my CRS' registrar, he examined me by prizing my anus slightly apart with his fingers, no instruments were used, anyway according to him I'm healing nicely, when I said it seems to be a slow process I was told that sometimes it can be but everything was fine which was a big relief, because I've been having intermittent pain I thought something was wrong or that the surgery was ineffective, clearly not the case, thankfully!
I feel that all the stringent cleaning of the area, bathing, drying regimes, combination of stool softeners and plenty of water have definitely helped with the healing process and ward off any potential infection, I guess it's payed off in the end!
