Steve,
did you have any spasms during your recovery?

Hey dawn, I had many spasms after surgery, infact they lasted well over 2 months and was painful as hell, even now occasionally I have weird tightening sensations, I still get discomfort from the incision site and a bit from the fissure site as well and I'm now almost 3 months post-op, overall I'm much better than pre-surgery but if I have some difficult BM's or go too many times I get increasing discomfort, the key is getting the poop precise enough not to cause irritation to the surgery site which I've found to be very difficult, maybe I'm just a slow healer and need more time, in terms of rectal surgery 3 months post-op isn't that long, after all it's a very delicate area that's in constant use.

Thanks Steve,
I called my crs again today, it's really been worrying me but he did say that it happens all the time and it doesn't mean lis didn't work. He called me in a prescription for valium and finally today, I had a complete bm. I know lis has worked because the bms was HUGE Image and would have killed my fissure before and it didn't hurt or cause any blood Image
Hopefully the spasms will calm down soon. The valium really has helped.
I don't think you are a slow healer though. I think the fissurectomy and the lis takes a little longer.

This is it folks, just over 3 months post-op and things have improved dramatically, I'm eating a normal diet, the fissure diet is a distant memory and I'm glad because I lost too much weight, the Movicol has been discontinued and replaced with Fybogel which is a high fibre fruit drink that bulks up the stool, combined with porridge oats for breakfast and 1.5-2L of water per day everything is good.
The first 2 and a half months was pretty bad for me, I felt like the surgery had not worked and the pain was bad, the spasms were intense and worse than during my fissure days but time is a great healer, a lot of patience is required also and positive thinking, all these things got me through this difficult phase (as well as this forum)
I now believe I'm the closest to being healed than I ever have been (99%), the bathroom no longer keeps me hostage, my ass doesn't rule me, I rule my ass, but I'll never forget the pain and never forget you guys, I'm not leaving the forum, I'll still be around from time to time, but I now have my life back..
Yours Sincerely
Steve99%Healed

Unfortunately, my golf clubs are in the basement awaiting spring. :( But I am into line dancing now instead. Image

Great news Steve!!
I typed a really long post and I'm not sure why it didn't post:(
It's so good to hear you are doing so well. I've been eating some new foods too along with my high fiber diet since I am just 4 weeks post-op, but I have already gained 10 lbs.
I lost so much weight too. It was hard too look at myself in the mirror the last couple of months before LIS and I really didn't go out much because I couldn't explain the weight loss and looked like I'd went too far to say I was on a diet...
I bought a new pair of jeans the other day and my 6 year old said "Mom, your butt looks like a butt again"LOL
I busted out laughing....
I'm so Happy for you, I know you had your fissure much longer than I did and had a very rocky recovery. I agree patience is required while healing and I think we all got to exercise that plenty just having the fissures.
Tomorrow's my first post-op follow up appointment. Keeping my fingers crossed. Image
