~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DAY 12:
Struggled with BM this morning, unlike in previous days, I put this down to missing out on my soup for lunch, but this is definitely worse, if I have a few decent sized BM's then the pain is less (bizarrely), because I missed lunch it had a knock-on effect on my stool consistency the next day which left me feeling as though I hadn't emptied myself, not good, all day I've had a dull ache in the rectum which isn't there when I've had several BM's, it's not really painful just nagging, I'm thinking it's the swelling internally around the surgery site but really have no idea, there's no bleeding and definitely no discharge so there's no infection and since I'm not climbing the walls with pain then I'm still good to go, I guess it takes a whole lot longer to get back to normal after Fissurectomy than I first anticipated, my expectations were too high, is 12 days to soon? I think so, more time is needed for this delicate area to heal...
Staying optimistic.
Steve,
Good job staying positive. Imagine healing from the type of surgery you had is not a straight trajectory upwards as is the case so often with healing an AF. Periodic setbacks are to be expected!!
Thanks cheryl, I'm pretty sure things will improve gradually over time, and set backs seem normal from what I've read so I'm not overly concerned at this point, as always, keeping with the positive mindset.
I was feeling pretty close to 100% for a few days, but today I have had some pain from the surgical site all day. Not a lot of pain, and no discharge, so I'm not overly concerned. But it is a bit humbling after feeling no pain for several days in a row.
I think it's just that when I feel great, I do too much, and then I get reminded that I had surgery three weeks ago. I did projects around the house all weekend, and I think it's just a bit too much for three weeks out.
I have had two doctors tell me that a normal recovery is six weeks. That makes sense to me. That doesn't mean you don't feel great before then, but I think occasional setbacks are to be expected during that time.
Think I did too much in the garden yesterday, besides other household things and got reminded that I'm only just 2 weeks post-op, very early days it seems.
Isn't that the way many of us do when recovering from something (illness, surgery, whatever). My 85 year old mum (now) did the same while recovering from major surgery from a year ago.
Just learn from the experience and don't repeat it. My former biology teacher told our class it is not a "mistake" until you do it again (after supposedly learning from the first mishap). Best wishes, Steve!!
I also kind of think this is how we get better. You know, push it a little bit, get sore, back off, heal some more, push it again, get sore, etc.
I think the physical activity is very good for recovery, but it is to be expected that with physical activity will come some discomfort from the injury site.
Like cherylk says, I just chalk it up to experience and take it as a friendly reminder that I'm not quite better yet.
DAY 13:
A much better day, any pain after BM slowly dissipates as the day wears on, the bruise on the left side of my anus is fading, have slowed down on the sitz baths and have almost finished my antibiotics, all in all I'm feeling considerably better, yesterday was just a minor setback due to me overdoing things and a change in stool consistency, only time will tell now..
