Fissures & Your Period

Postby flyingpineapple » 14 Sep 2017, 06:17

Hi All!
I just wanted to ask if anyone else had had this issue and how they deal with it. I'm in the process of getting my fissure healed (botox + Calcium Blockers) and I was doing really well until I got my period. I've had this problem before where I would be healing, then my period came and it was back to square one. I know being on your period can increase the pressure within you abdomen and change your bowel habits (mine don't change), so I wanted to ask if anyone else had a way of dealing with this particular week and not feeling like you've undone all the hard work.

Yes. It does make matters worse! I try to adjust the mirilax I am taking depending on my symptoms. I take Aleve (Naproxen) for my cramps. I also use tampons and no pads. This seems to help lessen the discomfort of both the fissure and the period.

Yes, I always used to feel like I'd been grated with a cheese grater down there when I had my period.
My dr told me that the change in hormones affects the smooth muscle...... which is why it feels so bad.

I just took ibuprofen and nice warm baths x
