Hi, New to the blog..In so much pain can barely think...

Postby sitz-a-lot » 15 Nov 2009, 14:35

Hi, I've read a lot of posting of people dealing with fissure pain for months, and I can not imagine living with this pain much longer. I'm a normal 43 yr old woman with 2 kids. Hemorroids started with childbirth and though a couple of really painful flareups over the years, nothing I didn't feel was manageable. about 6 weeks ago, I began having unbearable pain, saw a few doctors and eventually ended up with a Surgeon, who, based on my comments, thought I must have a fissure and scheduled surgery for a couple of weeks later. Well, in so much pain, I was ready to try anything if it would give me relief as he promised it would. While he was 'down there' he was going to remove a skin tag, mostly cosmetic, but since I was already numb and all, I said sure. Well, turns out he didn't find a fissure and only removed the skin tag, which is pretty mild on the recovery meter. Once the local wore off, I was in as much pain as before and over the last week, it has become ecruciating. I'm pretty sure he missed a major anal fissure. I've gone back in and gotten higher doses of Hydrocodone and also some Nifedipin and Lido cream. Barely helps. After a BM i'm down for at least 1/2 the day, in bed, hardly able to move. I go back in for an exam tomorrow- this is 2 weeks from my original surgery day..Ugh. I've missed so much work, so many of the kids soccer games and I feel like I'm missing out on life, trapped between my bed, the bathtub and the toilet. Does anyone else have experiences like this and can you offer any words of wisdom, any recommendations on better meds to ask for? anything?
all the best-

He missed the fissure? That's horrible!
When I finally got in to see a doctor about my fissure, I was out about a half-day after a BM due to the pain. He gave me analpram, which is hydrocortisone and an anesthetic. Improvement started pretty much immediately (I had been in pain for over two weeks). Long term use can be bad for the fissure, but it really helped in the short term.
Of course, drink a lot and get at least 25 grams of fiber. Stool softeners and laxatives can also help, at least in the short term.

I'll ask the Dr. about the analpram. I'll try anything at this point. I dont know how he missed the AF...but will find out more tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was totally sedated during surgery so couldn't explain the pain, location, etc.
I'm drinking lots of water, taking metamucil 2x day and Senokot 2-3 tablets/day. The Vicodin is constipating, but I have to take lots of it just to take the edge off the pain- though it doesn't stop it altogether.
Did you go to work during your painful bout? I am feeling anxious about all the work I'm missing, but can't imagine not being at home with the pain, and if I needed to BM at work....that would be hell. What do people do about anal pain and work??

Sitz,
I love your name! How creative!! Be careful with Senokot or any other stimulant laxative. Have you tried Miralax?

Hi,
I havn't tried Miralax, but it seems to be a favorite of a lot of folks on this site. I'll get some today. The senokot seems really mild, not sure if its doing much for me. I also do Metamucil about 3 times/day. How much Miralax do you typically take to ensure a smooth move the next morning?
I went back to the Dr. today and he mentioned that he didn't find the fissure when I had surgery two weeks ago that he expected to find. He did see an internal hemorroid but didn't think it was as bad as it is and didn't operate on it. I'm going back this Thursday for another surgery to remove the H. I'm pretty nervous about the post-op pain and want to be sure I get on a smooth and regular BM schedule. Oh, the joys of rectal issues...:)

Sitz,
I take a little over a capful at night and about 2/3 a capful in the afternoon plus Benefiber. Many people take smaller amounts than I do. It seems to be a very individual thing. Good luck!

HOPE THIS CAN HELP ....

Postby standing » 05 Mar 2013, 09:07

HELLO , I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHERE TO POST AS THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DOING THIS , BUT I FELT I NEEDED TO SHARE MY INFORMATION . I HAVE BEEN EXPERIANCING ALL THE PAIN AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH A ANAL FISURE .AFTER ABOUT A MONTH OF EXTREME PAIN I WENT TO SEE A SPECIALIST AND HE PERSCRIBED SOME SPASAM CREAM ? I USED IT FOR A WEEK AND FOUND NO RELIEF . AFTER COMBING THE INTERNET I FOUND ONE POST FROM SOMEBODY ABOUT TREATING THE POSSIBLE INFECTION INSTEAD OF THE FISSURE ? I STARTED TO ADD TRIPPLE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT TO THE PERSCRIBED CREME . AFTER ABOUT TWO DAYS THE RELIEF WAS AMAZING !!!!!!!!!! THIS MAKES PERFECT SENSE . DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE FISSURE , INFECTION IS HIGHLY LIKELY . IF THE INFECTION IS REMOVED THE BODY MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE TO HEAL ? THE PAIN I WAS SUFFERING CONTINUOUSLY HAS JUST ABOUT STOPPED !!!!!!! I CAN ACTUALLY SIT FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES . I MIGHT ALSO SUGGEST A COURSE OF ORAL ANTIBIOTICS IN ADDITION TO THE OINTMENT . AT LEAST THIS WILL HELP THE WOUND HEAL . IF THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT PLACE FOR THIS POST , PLEASE COPY AND PASTE IN THE MOST VISABLE PLACE ON THIS SITE AS THIS COULD POSSIBLY GIVE SOMBODY THEIR LIFE BACK .... THANK YOU ,

Welcome Sitz,
I too am a newbie here and have found so much help!! My Dr gave me RX for Diltiazem ointment. And I went from debilitating pain and near panic attacks and many tears when having to go potty, to being almost pain free whiling having a bm!! NO more panic attacks or crying!! I kept on my Dr until she got me pain free!! I would not give up!!! Almost like.... If I'm NOT happy NO one is happy!!! LOL!! After a few emails and trying different RX I got the Diltiazem and I am soooooo thankful for it!!! Looking forward for the healing to be complete and the fissure a horrible memory!!! I wish you luck and a speedy recovery!!!!

Hi Sitz, I am in the same boat as you. Lots of horrible pain. I have been suffering since last Sept. I have been on Rectogesic, now on Dilt, until I get Botox on the 4th April.
I have missed lots of work, I am in pain 24-7. I have one chronic AF and one acute. I would get the CRS to check again to make sure there are no Fissures.
Is the pain burning, stabbing or itching? I think Hems can cause similar pain.
Let us know how you go, you are not alone. Xx

I think sitz is an old post. Standing has posted at the bottom of the thread. Standing you might want to start a new topical in the general anal fissure tthreads.
