Mypoorbutt - do you have something to manage the pain right now? You won't be stuck with this - even if you have to do the surgery again, you have been so strong so far, you'll be able to get through it

No Katie it doesn't especially if you have a pre existing condition like I do, but I was hoping it would work for me.
Hi GG, not much for the pain Hun as I can't take ibuprofen because of my IBS just put the gel on my butt cheeks which as I'm sure you can appreciate doesn't do much. I have cocodamol but they make me very sleepy so can only take at night time or if there is someone here to watch my son. My GP will not prescribe anything stronger so I'm actually contemplating getting Valium from an online pharmacy. I'm just hoping he will do the op a second time as I had to fight to get it this time.

Oh darn. Ya I know the gel does nothing much. My doctor's first suggestion was Valium and I've heard that it is ideal for this situation (I couldn't take it due to family history of allergic reaction to it). Do you have a surgeon and a general practitioner? If one has resisted, would the other prescribe? Or you could try emergency...but that's no fun at all. I'm thinking of you - do your best not to get too discouraged, you're going to get a solution!

Thanx GG,
My GP is pretty useless she offered me paracetamol when I was first having the spasms....like paracetamol would even touch it. My surgeon did give me Valium in the begining last year but only 2 weeks worth. Gosh knows when I will get a call off him though lol. I'm not too bad today as I managed to work and pain is still only a 4 so sleeping should be okk...just a bit frustrated I'm no further forward I guess

Trapped gas causing burning. Ointment relieves the spasms allows the gas to pass pain goes away. Thats my situation. So sphincter muscle still has spasms. I thought LIS was suppose to stop that. Is it normal to still have spasms after Lis? Anyone know?

I know, it must be incredibly frustrating. Glad you'll hopefully be able to get a great sleep, and the pain/spasms will just continue to decrease!

Well managed to sleep after 2 cocodamol and went to GP this morning who decided after she had weighed me...lost another 9lbs in 2 weeks...that she would let me have some diazepam for the spasms...but only this once I have 21 tablets and will need to take two at a time so will only use them if I go to the toilet more than twice.
On the pain level it's about a 3 today but does go up to a 5 when I sit for too long now I'm back at work...it's what happens in the hours after a BM that worries me.

Sounds like a good idea to ration - but you have them if you need them. I wonder why they're being so stingy with the pain meds, especially knowing you can't take ibuprofen! It seems unfair, you have to be able to have something when needed, and not have to worry. But a 3 sounds good! Any chance of bringing a heating pad to work to sit on? And is the time that the spasms last post bm decreasing at all?

Hi GG,
It's because it's a benzo and they are super strict and my GP doesn't agree with pain meds for chronic conditions....she thinks we should learn to manage our pain....obviously she has never had a fissure.
Unfortunately I work in a bail hostel and we are not allowed to take anything inside with us.
Yes yesterday the pain wasn't too bad when I wasn't sat, but that's pretty normal when I haven't had a BM that day. No the spasms are still lasting hours unfortunately. The GP did say it could take 6 weeks for them to stop but I'm not sure how much faith I put in her opinion as she couldn't see my fissure and didn't want me to have my GTN longer than 8 weeks until one of my consultants phoned her. But we will see how it goes obviously nothing is going to happen this ride of Xmas, so I hope they do start to become less or I will be a size 12 for the first time since I was 16 lol.
