Menstrual cramps in rectum...

Postby Mae » 09 Apr 2015, 20:25

I don't know if it has anything to do with my fissure or not, but lately I've been getting cramplike pains in my rectum during my period. It obviously might just be referred pain but I've started worrying I have endometriosis. Sometimes the rectal pains are even more severe than the uterine pains. I'm pretty sure with endo you get pains throughout the month though right?
● Fissure first appeared Nov '14
● Cycle of healing and reappearing
● Using conservative methods (metamucil, managing anxiety)

Ooohh that sounds awful. No, I never experienced that. I was convinced I had a UTI because my urethra hurt when I was having spasms. (there was no UTI).
But your referred pain, if that's what it is, sounds MUCH worse. I am so sorry.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Do you have an anal fissure?? I never had spasms in my rectum until I suffered with chronic anal fissure. They are pretty bad and similar to menstrual cramps. The relaxing ointments can help and also sitting/lying on a heating pad. Sometimes walking around or using a sitz bath helped as well. I hope I understood your question(s) correctly. Just thinking maybe this is what you are experiencing.

I think once the muscles are in spasm they can refer pain all over the place. I've even had pain refer into my inner thigh/groin.
