Thinking on rectum removal

Postby SurvivorX » 06 Jun 2017, 15:20

What do you think about this option guys?
I`m in severe pain for 4 years now - 6 unsuccessful LIS that caused more fissures and nerve damage and tried all the ointments in the world. I`m in severe pain most of the day, I can hardly move. Sad thing I have a 1 year old boy that needs a daddy. I desperately need to be one but the constant sharp pain is messing with my brain whole day long and I`m constantly depressed and miserable.
Seems like the only option left is to find the right surgeon present him with the LIS documentation and pray he agrees on rectum removal. I would rather shit through my stomach than having to live with that pain for the rest of my life and being a petty excuse for a husband and a father.
Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's a bad situation you are in. I had LIS and it worked, thankfully. I think rectum removal would be the LAST option. It would be preferable to constant pain, which also handicaps you much more. However, it's irreversible, therefore I would at least get more opinions from experts. Find a different surgeon (or two). Why did the LIS not work? Were they all done by the same doc?

Hi is the pain from the fissures or from the ops you have had.
I have a good friend who has crohns which caused fissures and fistulas she was allowed to have a temporary colostomy for 18 months to see if they would heal.
I'm sure this would be an option for you if the pain only comes from a BM
Full rectal/anus removal is usually only done for severe peri anal crohns or for anal/rectal cancer. So they would probably be a bit reluctant to give you that.
I'm assuming you have tried painkillers like gabapentin and pregablin
Hope you get some relief as no one should have to suffer like this

I have thought about going on a fast/ clear liquid diet for a few weeks, thereby virtually eliminating the need to poo. Would things resolve?

I might try it.
