Im in my private room now. Dr Arun came and explained exactly what he did. He layed open where the setons were and reattached my muscle, even the small tunnel going to the left glute. He then made a hole on the cavity on the left and excised the tract and removed all the infected tissue and sutured it closed with 2-0 Vicryl which absorbs on its own. He even took pictures ever step of the way and sent them to me. He's very thorough. I go back to my hotel tomorrow and have a follow up in a week. He said I can come for a check up after 1 pm any day except Sunday if I have a concern. Imagine being able to walk in and see a specialist at any moment. Its a real thing here, I actually cried in front of the nurses because they have made such a big impact on me. I should have come here 2 years ago. My room is beautiful. I have a smart remote to control the AC, Lights, Blinds etc. Kitchenette with water, tea, coffee, juices in the fridge and a safe. Even extra dishes and sink if I have My own food. My dinner is lovely but I have no appetite right now. A whole team of nurses are caring for me to move, shower, take a urine sample and more. They are so sweet and kind its unreal to me. I can't even imagine what I went through in Canada. Its like my mind is blocking it out. I'll keep updating as things progress.

Now, that's what I call "personalized healthcare".

My country has national health service and the waiting lists for procedures are very long. But that's not the only problem, even for a simple control you loose an entire day in queues.

I'm still sore but making progress. Most of the pain is where the setons were since my muscle had to be cut and repaired. I went for 2 follow ups so far and everything is looking good. Dr Arun said I should be feeling significantly better in another 2 weeks. I had a bit of a scare 2 days after surgery and was all swollen on the left side. I paid for a cab and went to the ER. I saw a doctor in under 10 minutes! In Canada it would have taken easily 10 hours! Anyway she said swelling is normal and didn't see anything concerning but checked the colorectal departments schedule and booked me in to see Dr Arun the following day. He looked and said my skin closed very early and there was just build up of blood and sebum under the skin but no sign of infection. He made a small incision right there in his office at the surgery spot to relieve the pressure. The swelling dropped almost immediately. So in under 24 hrs I went to the ER, saw my surgeon again and got the small issue fixed right away. The ER visit costed $145 CAD and each follow up has been $60!! The care, expertise, efficiency and facility is world class. I'm beyond impressed. I can't say enough good things about Bumrungrad International and Thai people in general. My hotel manager knows I'm here for surgery and she personally came to my room and brought me a sweet rice with mango and coconut milk dessert and a get well card that the staff signed. She's such a sweetheart. After the nightmare in Canada this place is giving me hope for life again. My mom is also getting multiple issues checked that shes been living with for years while we're here. My girlfriend is also sending her records to Bumrungrad and connecting with specialists to treat chronic issues shes been living with in Canada, hopefully I'll come back with her so she can get help and experience Thailand as well.

Dear matrixgotme,

Thank you for sharing your story. Happy to hear you are doing OK post surgery; I wish you speedy healing:) I hear ya re Canada; many do not even have a family doctor and forget about getting a referral! I had to leave the country to see a specialist! Safe travels to you and your mom.
