Possible AF/hemorrhoids?

Postby BeccaBoo » 09 Jun 2012, 16:02

Hello!
I hope someone can help me, I'm quite concerned about the pain and (bright red) blood I am getting after having a bowel movement. I have always suffered with constipation and had a tiny bit of blood after going but nothing like this. I've had a look and it basically looks like two sort of 'open cuts' (roughly about 3cm although may be longer as I can't see that far in..) going into my bum... my Mum has suffered with hemorrhoids and said she had lumps that caused a 'dragging' sensation, which I don't get, so I was wondering if these could possibly be AF's? I haven't seen my doc yet, I've been putting it off if I'm quite honest but it's got to the point it's so painful like sharp glass when I pass a stool and the loo is covered in blood as is the tissue after I've wiped. I've been using Anusol for nearly a week now which has made no difference. I suffer from severe M.E. and have always had GI symptoms, I have never experienced anything like this before though and I have suffered with constipation for years. I'm on senna & lactulose.
I realise I need to see my doctor but wanted to hear your thoughts on what I've described? I've not been right 'down there' for a few months but it's only been in the past two-three weeks it's got worse (i.e. more pain and blood).
Thank you in advance!
Becca

Sounds like a fissure... Fissures are tears that occur when the tissue is stretched past it's stretching point... Have you had any large or sharp stools before the constant pain started?
Either way, it sounds like a fissure. See your doctor as soon as you can for him/her to advise you on the proper way to treat it. That was what i did and trust me it pays off. because the fact I waited so long; after being constipated for so long i caused a fissure due simply to "Oh! it will probably go away on it's own".
I'm assuming your in the U.K. due to your lingo I forget what the name for it is over the pond, however Miralax has been a godsend it takes a few days to kick in as it takes on average 2-3 days for something to move from your stomach to your rectum. But it made a world of difference for me...
Drink plenty of water, men should drink 3L a day, women 2L. Make sure you are consuming at least 2L of water a day Becca, you'd be surprised how much of a difference that makes as well...
But the most important... and the most effective thing you can do is consult your physician.
