3 months post LIS surgery and still hurting, HELP

Postby Hae1210 » 29 Mar 2014, 21:18

Help please I had a lis and hemeroidectomy on dec. 30 and Iam still not better.
I seen the surgeon 3 times after surgery. First time he said everything looked good second time he said
My stitches came out to early and third time he said what can I say it's going to take a long time to heal.
I went to my wonder GI after that who 4 1/2 weeks ago took me off sulfadine and put me on ditluzem cream
4. Times a day I thought it was working until I caught a stomach bug 2 weeks ago and had diahrea now I feel like Iam practically back at square one :-( I constantly feel like my anus is swollen and it hurts to walk or sit for long periods. I still take sitz baths, high fiber and 2 colace and a teaspoon of Metamucil a day in my morning drink. I just turned 40 Iam getting married in November but this is taking over my life and I feel like no one understands. Please help. Thank you

Hi I'm so sorry. You might want to be careful with the Metamucil. It bulks the stool and makes your stool larger which in turn stretches the area more. If you get diarrhea again put a little a&d ointment around your anus. That will keep the acid from burning your bum. Less irritation, less pain. It's probably the he hemorrhoid surgery causing the most pain. That's a rough one to recover from. Takes a long time. Try to stay positive. All the best Suzy.

Thank you so much Suzy. It's wierd no one else has commented and that my reply to you earlier never posted. I feel like I'm going crazy! Today it is burning so much and now at the end of my skin tag I feel like another little skin tag. I wish I could see in there. I feel like the surgeon botched everything up and that my behind is a mess. :-(

A&D is a zinc oxide cream, usually used for diaper rash. It creates a barrier. I found it irritated my skin, but I have NOT had LIS. If you google A&E on the Internet you will find quite a lot of info about zinc oxide cream.

Going back to GI this week. Nurse thinks he may want to refer me to an actual colon rectal surgeon who may have to do the surgery again :-(. Any advice? I'm really scared but certainly do not want to continue living like this

Hi, a CRS (colorectal surgeon) is the best person to give you answers. Write down on a piece of paper everything you'd like to ask, sometimes we forget when we get there. It can really be helpful. Can I ask why you had LIS and a hemorrhoidectomy together? What were your symptoms before surgery? I'm asking because I had a hemorhoidectomy years ago that cause anal stenosis and that's what set me on my path. Stenosis is scarring, it makes the anal opening smaller and smaller and scar tissue doesn't stretch so you can tear. I has LIS, it didn't help and almost a year ago I had double advancement flaps, that allowed the surgeon to remove a lot of the scar tissue and introduce new healthy tissue there. It was a little rough but made a difference. Hope all goes well at the drs. remember if you don't get your questions answered please see another doctor. There is someone out there that can help you. So Iam now seeing a colon and rectal specialist he says I have four fissures that another surgery will not cure and is performing tests to see why Iam not healing he feels that there is an underlying condition that may be causing this. Has anyone else gone through this? If so was the outcome something simple or was it crohns or cancer. Iam really scared.

Hi Hae,

I am really sorry to hear that you are not healing. I do not have any recommendations or know what is causing your problems, but I wanted to let you know that I felt your pain and anxiety when I read your recent post and wish you the best. Two weeks ago I had LIS surgery and banding for the hemorrhoids. I do understand a little bit of what you are going through. Your CRS doctor should be able to find out what is happening and causing your issues and provide the proper treatment. Hopefully it will be some thing simple because dealing with these issues is hard enough without complications. Stay strong and positive and before you know it you will be married with a healthy butt and enjoying life.

So after a ct scan of abdomen and pelvis and blood work and a colonoscopy with biopsies taken looks like my fissures are really not my problem at all. The initial drs told me you could not get an infection in your rectum well guess what you can and now I am on antibiotics (flaglye and cipro) but I now have a fistula that needs surgery after we get the infection under control and the colon and rectal surgeon believes I have chrones desease and that is why all of this started. Will get the results from the biopsies and the course of action this coming Friday.so my advice to anyone out there suffering with unhealing fissures don't let it go on as long as I did go to a colon and rectal specialist.
