Apes,

Where was the Botox injected? Sphincter or the levator Ani muscle? Acupuncture in the rectum? How do I find a specialist in that area?

Alyssa, I'm no expert, but maybe you are still having complications from the old fissure. How long has it been since it healed? The Botox was injected on both sides of the fissure and directly into the fissure. No, acupuncture would not be in rectum, it could be used to relax you and help the spasm lessen. You can check with friends or get a recommendation from a doctor. Friends would be better. You might be able to find some post here on pelvic floor therapy, I think it has helped some people. Do you have any bleeding after a BM?

Hi Alfa,
This has been a really great post - I am 99% convinced I suffer intermittent bouts of Levator Ani and your symptoms are identical to mine. It's not a constant thing but when I go through bad stages again, it's all you describe and I can't sit down comfortably at all in certain positions - worse in the evening always. It's that feeling of pressure just stuck in your backside and it drives me potty! Very interesting you write also about the nerve twinges to the left side of your anus! I also get these too on & off......I'm a real stress head and I can become obsessive in my thinking and very anxious. At my worse with it all, they put me on Sertraline too, which I'm now off now I'm feeling pretty much my old self again....I guess you were prescribed these to help reduce some off the emotional stress of it all and to bring you back into a calmer state - I am very thankful they worked for me, although did not "cure" any of the symptoms.
I'm also in the UK and not actually discussed this issue yet but I am very interested in looking at some of the pelvic floor therapy techniques to see what relief they can bring.
Interestingly, Apes mentions Acupuncture. I started this myself a month ago and where I've not noticed any difference in some of the old fissure inflammation symptoms that happen now & again, what I have noticed is a noticeable improvement with the LA symptoms - reduced considerably! But considering that tension makes things so much worse down there generally, it makes sense that Acupuncture is possibly helping as it seeks to rebalance energy in the body, ensure it flows smoothly and reduce associated tension & anxiety.......I'd say if you can find an accredited Acupuncturist and affordable treatment, give it a go :)

Apes,

My fissure was declared healed about 7 weeks ago; I have some bleeding after bm. I just went to see another crs last week and she didn't see anything that could be causing me pain, so she suggested I see a pelvic floor physical therapist which I am already seeing. This few days, I have been in much more pain than other days and I am exhausted!

Alyssa, sorry to heaR you are still having a bad time of it. I have a lot of friends who have bleeding that do not have a fissure. So maybe that is due to something else, possibly internal hemmoroids. It hasn't been that long that the fissure has healed. I think there are many here who have healed that have had pain after. That in combination with the bleeding may be causing the problem and hopefully will resolve itself over time. I think seeing the pelvic floor therapist and possibly acupuncture may help. Monitor your pain level in a diary and see how goes over time. I wish the best.

Alyssa,

What is causing your bleeding durning a BM and does the bleeding happen after every BM? Has your CRS been able to determin where the bleeding is from and treated for the issue? Bleeding after a BM is not normal and could be the source of your pain.

I don't know what's causing the bleeding and it's not often that I do bleed; they have ruled out hemeroids too and I have a colonoscopy scheduled at the end of the month to rule anything else. In not looking forward to the prep since I'm already in pain.

Alyssa,
I would like to hear other peoples opinion about going for the colonoscopy. As I may not be the best person to comment on this, let alone have any expertise. My fissure started from a colonoscopy but I would bet that there is less then 1 percent chance of that happening. My doctor thought it might of happened from the prep, or he just didn't want to admit it happened during the colonoscopy. since you are fresh off a healing fissure, I would be careful about any instrument going in back there. Read other post about how long it takes people to fully recover from a fissure. Some believe they will have symptoms the rest of their life. I hope I'm not out of bounds in saying that but I do care a tremendous amount for all the people on this forum. I wish I could do more.
