healed??

Postby sb2 » 03 Sep 2014, 19:49

Well, today was an interesting day. I went to my CRS for my 8 week follow up which I put off until today - the 12 week point. He asked me how I was doing, and I told him I still have a nagging pain and irritation. I told him my stomach has been off lately, and that every time I feel like I'm healing, I get a bout of diarrhea and feel like I go back to square one. He proceeded to give me a full internal exam which hurt like hell. Not the fissure, just the incredible discomfort of the exam. When it was finally over and I regained my composure, I was amazed I didn't feel any fissure pain. I've been feeling discomfort with even the slightest imperfection with my bm, but this guy goes all the way up with his finger and afterwards I feel ok??! He said the fissure is healed. I asked him what I have been feeling, and he said there may be some superficial cuts in there, but more than likely what I have been feeling is the fissure site getting irritated, but not re-torn. He said this feeling of irritation will likely continue for awhile until things toughen up down there and things get back to normal.

Not sure what to make of it, but I am cautiously optimistic that the worst is behind me and there are better days ahead. Thought this might be of interest to others who have been struggling post LIS. I am hoping and praying for all of us.

Superficial cuts after lis? Did he explain why that would occur after you had the surgery? Do you have discomfort once in a while or everyday?

I have been diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction (tight pelvic muscles) and my doctor stated that I could be getting superficial cuts because the muscles are tight...

That sounds very very encouraging. It sounds good. Cautious optimism is probably a good place right now, but hopefully soon you will be convinced! Very happy for you!

I'm curious about the superficial cuts, too? Why would you have those?

I'm starting to wonder if these superficial cuts/burning pain are caused by having new tender skin. Did you have an extensive surgery (ie., internal and external hemmies removed)? You didn't have your surgery that long ago Alyssa, maybe it's because that new skin is really fragile? I too had a hemorrhoidectomy (11 years ago now) and I have very sensitive and seemingly weak skin down there. I wonder if there is something a person can do to toughen up that skin (maybe collagen)...

Msimon,

I've never had any issues in the past 5 years (since my hemoriodectomy.. No bleeding or pain) until I got a fissure..

He didn't explain much about the superficial cuts, and I was so surprised to hear the fissure was healed, that I didn't ask him to elaborate.

Alyssa, I don't feel the pain every day, just once in a while. Also, it does sometimes feel like a paper cut, which seems to fit with the "superficial cut" theory, but most of the time it is just a mild irritation sensation. I noticed you indicated you were declared healed, but still have pain. How did they diagnose pelvic floor dysfunction? What were your symptoms?

Msimon, I did not have any hemmies removed, just a fissurectomy and a second LIS (first one failed).

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I hope we are all beyond this soon.
