For the ladies

Postby msimon » 24 Sep 2014, 19:16

I have very weak skin down there and really think that it is playing a role in my fissures not healing and in tearing new ones. I have been on oral contraceptives my whole fertile life and a Doctor once told me to use topical estrogen, which I didn't because others have said I am fine (Maybe some think we don't get enough from the pill)...sooo I was wondering if any one has used estrogen cream anally? What do you think of using it there? Does it thicken whatever skin you put it on or just on the genitalia? :thankyou: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2685269/

This article sites accelerated wound healing. Hmmmmmm

There is quite a lot of evidence that estrogen could help wound healing.

I don't know how easy it would be to get a prescription for topical estrogen. Doctors don't seem to favour HRT, or estrogen generally, except for birth control. It certainly seems worth a try though.

In the 80s, I knew an older lady who fondly remembered estrogen face creams. She said they gave you a wonderful complexion. Until they were banned! But they know a lot more about dosage now.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Hey, if it works, I'll see if my gynecologist will prescribe it for me.
Last time I saw him, we discussed menopause. I'm not menopausal yet, but it's in the pretty near future. We talked about the fact that I can't take calcium supplements for bone health because they constipate me, which is obviously bad news with an anal fissure. I asked about HRT, and he seemed fine with it, given my general healthiness.
When I mentioned HRT to my GP a few weeks later, she had this knee-jerk "HRT bad" response.

So when the time comes, I'll be sure to ask Dr Gyno and not Dr GP!

I am willing to give this a try myself (I'm not menopausal yet)... Let me know if this works; I think you can get it prescribed by your gyno... Are there any other creams that can strengthen skin back there?
