I think ive had fissures before that healed themselves but this time more pain and blood si i went to the gastroenterologist. He gave me hydrocortisone suppositories and told me to use stool softeners then have a colonoscopy in 4 weeks. Seemed to be helping for 2.5 weeks but then more blood. It brings me so down when i see blood. Is it normal during healing to still haveblood or am i back to square 1?

Hi Tat,

Sorry that you are suffering from a fissure and welcome to the site. There are a lot of people on the board with a lot of knowledge.

I would recommend that you see a colon rectal specialist (CRS) for your fissure. There are creams that treat a fissure typically better than hydrocortisone suppositories, although I did have some success with the suppositories. A colonoscopy is not typically necessary for a fissure unless there could be some other medical issues causing the fissure. If you are seeing blood, it most likely does mean that the fissure is not healed. If your pain is not too bad, I would not get concerned about the blood. You need to keep you stools regular and most CRS recommend a high fiber diet, drink as least 64OZ of water a day and use a stool softener like MiraLax.

Stool softeners are a must. See if your Doctor can give you Diltaizem or Nfidepene. Since it is still acute, you may be able to stay ahead of it and get it healed up.

As long as your pain hasn't increased, I think you are still healing.
